Default 2009 IS350 Advice

I'm looking into purchasing a 2009 IS 350 with 108K. Anything in particular I should be looking into?

First, the Carfax report obviously. Then the previous Lexus maintenance history, available through Lexus.com once you create a log-in and set your VIN to the vehicle's VIN that you're looking to purchase. Post your findings on what out-of-the-ordinary items you find on that report.

Other than doing the usual test drive, walk-around, and optional pre-purchase inspection, listen out for odd sounds from the engine bay and monitor your trans for smooth shifts during the test drive.

Should be a good purchase though, if everything checks out! Join the 350 club...you won't regret it!

108K is nothing for a Toyota/Lexus engine. I am surprised that much work was done. I have a 2006 Camry SE 3.3L V6 at almost 150K, and a 2013 Toyota Sienna with roughly 135K, and the only work I ever had to perform was the 100K service on both, and on the Camry I've only had to change the O2 sensor, fix a power steering leak and change the radiator (last year). On both cars I don't have even so much as an oil leak. Both have been driven hard over the years with uncountable trips in harsh conditions

Oil consumption. My 09 IS350 burns oil. I have to add 1qt every 1.3k miles. Runs great though, no problems yet. It’s currently at 135k miles.

No, I just had my 2010 IS350 dash changed by the dealer a few weeks back. The warranty for 2010 models ends this year

Besides the mirror, headlight, and the fuel induction service (unnecessary service), everything else was a recall and a common point of failure on the 2IS. So it has had a proper maintanence history and recalls performed as they should. Looks like a good ride to me, assuming the in-person once over looks good inside and out. Do it!

No worries with this one. All of my Lexus vehicles have over 100k...one over 200k! I would take any of them on a road trip tomorrow. As previously mentioned you can't go wrong with a well taken care of 2IS. Buy it!

O/T from OP but...
Try this: buy two cans of Yamaha Ring Free and pour one in the fuel tank and fill to 3/4. Run the crap out of it! Pull long steep hills at RPM making it work at temperature. Repeat. Change the oil to your favorite conventional dino fluid; none synthetic.
Report back in 5k....
Money says, it cuts oil loss in half or even better.

How is the car used?

/return....

As part of my pre-purchase inspection; I have them get the car in the air and do my own inspection;
rust
torn cv boots
torn ball joint boots
oil and coolant leaks
trans leaks
diff leaks
Damage from driving over ????? and again, inspection of drip rails for clamp marks.
Do keep in mind Car Flakes is a warm fuzzy only. Anyone can have parts painted out of pocket.

Having the car inside under florescent lights AND looking from the bottom up allows you to see things others miss and look at paint shades for mismatches from panel to panel. Also look for overspray inside of doors, fenders, trunk, hood. I spect all door gaps, hood gaps, trunk gaps and most importantly; the sound they make when being closed.

Too many years in the auto industry. I can be thorough in a short time...
