Default Thinking of getting an IS

Hey folks, I am thinking of buying an IS250 or 350 2006-10, whatever falls in my price range. I am thinking of a car that's in 100K miles range.
What are some common problem I should expect during the ownership of the car.
Being Lexus I would guess the transmission and Engine are rock solid.
I own a 2000 infiniti i30 and I think IS would be a real upgrade.

Personally, I would get an IS350, which is a huge power upgrade. Many of the issues I have seen from people I know and on this forum are 2006 through 2008, and generally have been on cars with well above 150k. One issue you really want to make sure has been addressed when looking at 2006 through 2010 models is the sticky dash issue. There is only warranty left if you have a 2010 model, but it ends this year.

Last September I bought a 2010 IS350 Sport with 52k on it from a friend who was the only owner for $18k. It looks like new, has no issues, all recalls were addressed. Last month Lexus changed the dashboard, so even that is new. I can tell you first hand they are solid cars, but the higher the mileage, the more chance there could be something that needs to be replaced. But overall these engines are built to last

Agreed. One of the first questions I ask a seller for an IS is "did you get the sticky dash recall done"?

Yep! If it's a 2006 thru 2009 and it hasn't been addressed, if you don't care than no problem. If you do care, it's going to cost you around $400 for a dashboard plus labor. Unless you are the diy type, which I'm not!

IS350, you don't really want to deal with the carbon buildup problems unless you already know someone who can help you with it
