I would first check the see if the handle is getting a power source first. If you swap the handles (not even sure this can happen though), you might still not even get that function to work without a power source. Check fuses?
I am experiencing a similar problem on my 09 IS. The passenger side smart access handle works flawlessly to unlock and lock the door with just a touch. The driver side handle will only work to lock the doors, not unlock.
@doso1983 can you lock the door from your drives side handle?
99% certain swapping them is not an option as the drivers side has the key tumbler and passenger does not. Thus there are parts you want on that drivers if the battery ever dies.
As for the fix; this would be a good use of Techstream or even the Fusion app. It digs pretty deep into what state things are in and what device is listening.
Oh yaaaa... Take a look here!
It might be worth a look and see.
Fusion must have the Lexus PID pack and then go to other PIDs, Smart Access!
Have either of you tried cleaning the handle? It works via a change in capacitance. Meaning; if there is something conductive between the sensor contact and the door handle AND IT THINKS it is being touched all the time it won't change state. A build up of hand lotion comes to mind....
I have cleaned the handle, I have replaced the handle with another off ebay for testing purposes (with no chance) I also removed the passenger handle, connected it into the drivers side handle (is uses the same connector) and still no change. Regardless of the handle I used, I cannot unlock from drivers door

That is good info!! So, does it lock with rubber button?
And it works with the remote?

In your case, did this handle start to be faulty after any particular issue with the car or repair? Window left cracked open allowing moisture inside the door?

The door lock itself functions properly when using the rubber button, the remote buttons, or any other method of controlling the drivers door lock

The car was doing this at the time of purchase for us, got it used a year ago. I wish I had that information.

Two choices.... create limited account on Toyota's TIS website or for like $15 go to www.alldatadiy.com and buy a year subscription. It will show troubleshooting tips, schematics, tools and methods to resolve problems. Worth the $15....

The next time I get a chance I am going to hook it up to my Techstream and see if anything jumps out at me as a problem. Ill compare results between my working door and the non-working one
