Hello all, just purchased a 2007 lexus is250. It is my first lexus car, has about 180k miles dark grey color. Ive had it about 2 weeks now. Possibly have driven it about 1700 miles so far mostly highway. Had trouble reading the oil stick at first still do a little bit. But im used to monitoring oil as i drive an 03 infiniti i35 daily lol. Car drives nice other than when i get up to highway speeds it seems as if a groan or grinding sound lets louder the faster i go. Im thinking front wheel bearing possibly but which one idk lol. It is rwd actually my first rear drive car. Im pretty handy with mechanics. I changed the pcv valve which is one of the first thing i do on any car i buy. Has nice power for a 2.5. I went to lexus to price a tranny filter. They told me it only needs to be changed when the tranny breaks down?? And they dont have the part? So they tried to sell me an oil filter. I said is this the transmission filter? Lol. I walked out of the dealership. So i did research on this car before buying. Is there anything i need to check or look out for. Also can parts be bought at toyota dealership vs lexus?

Why would you change a filter when there’s trans problem? Lol it’s to late then.

for the wheel bearing does the noise change pitch when turning ? If not might be a rear wheel bearing.

other issues : do a search for carbon build up.

welcome to the club.

Ok so after a new batter(under warranty) I get all types of lights on the dash vsc, traction, and check engine. So had the codes scanned at autozone. They gave me a 2757, I researched it and its says torque converter pressure solenoid performance stuck off. I cleared the code, it came back twice. So definetely gonna have to look into this. I went to a salvage yard that had a is250 similar to mine and drained the transmission fluid, took the filter off and pan, and saw where the soleniod is located from watching a youtube video. Anyone know the part number for the solenoid and where i can possibly buy one from as well as fluid and filter?

Where in SC are you located?

Welcome to the 2IS Club!

The trick with the oil dipstick is to "quick dunk and pull" the dipstick. At least, that's what works for me.

So all of those warning lights only appeared AFTER you had a new battery installed?

Find yourself a different dealership or at least a different tech to speak with because they're feeding you bad info.

Wish you luck on finding out trans-related issues.

Thanks man for your response. Im in columbia sc sometimes in greenville sc too. Yeah when i bought the car the battery was dying. So i got lucky since it was from walmart. So new battery in and about a thousand miles of driving i get the vsc trac light on. Now i think the car sat for a few months. But the code was 2757. They erased it. It came back i read it and erased it with my scanner. Other than that and a on and off wheel bearing sound the car drives good. But ill probably take it to firestone and have them pinpoint which wheel it coming from.

thanks for all your replies, I finally found the time to take it to a shop for a second opinion. The wheel bearing noise was getting worse, and i didnt know which one it was, I knew it had to be front one though. I jacked the car up on pass side front wheel first, grabbed the tire top and bottom, left and right and no movement. I let the wheel spin and it was free to turn. Did same thing on driver side. Except the driver side front time was not turning as freely as the pass side. So thought maybe this is the bad bearing. Keep in mind i dont really hear the noise until about 60 mph. Also braking was uneven ect,. Took it to pep boys for a second opinion and they checked the whole car and even drove it. They said it was the driver side bearing as well, but quoted $400 for the part and $200 for labor. I just listend to them talk. That bearing is so dam easy to remove lol i said to myself, hell on my infiniti, you have to remove the entire spindle and get the bearing pressed out as well as a new one pressed in. This one on rwd lexus is cake!

So it sounds like you replaced a wheel bearing? Did that fix your noise issue? Drivers side front bearing?

Well i replaced the front driver side bearing but the noise seems to still be there, although it has gone down a tab bit its still there at times but not all the time. And most noticable at 60mph and above. Sometimes when i turn the wheel to the right it dies down some. I replaced the driver side with a used one but maybe its bad also idk.

Why did you replace it with a used one ? Cost of a new one ?

Yeah, a used wheel bearing?

Get yourself a good Timken or Moog wheel bearing.

Well i had one in the trunk from a salvage yard and it seemed ok. So i just tried it to see how long it would actually take, hardest part was unpluging the abs sensor plug without damaging it. Also rotor was stuck to the old wheel bearing. But yeah imma price some new ones.
