sticky dash issues
#16
If you live up north it is less likely to happen. In sunnier states like mine (Florida) the sunlight + heat cooks the panels and they start to get sticky. On my LS it started on the glovebox when my date tried to open it. She missed the button but her fingernail went into the panel and came out with dash on it. Then the driver's door handle started to go flat and sticky, then the driver's panel started sticking to the dash and leaving parts of itself glued to the dash. I'm trying to figure out if I find an IS250 (manual trans, hard to find) and it has the goo what it would cost if it wasn't covered.
Thanks =)

I wish I knew this before hand, I bought a 2006 is250 and only had the recall for the airbag inflator or something of that sort.

I have a 2012 IS250 with a mildly sticky dash. The door panels are sticky and starting to crumble. I had the car in for some repairs recently, and was told that Lexus has a "campaign" to replace the dash and inside door panels due to this issue. It ends 8/14/2022. I called, took the car there, they photographed, and advised me that since I have a rebuilt title, I am not eligible. I knew this when I bought the car from a close friend 3 years ago Nothing wrong with it, It was stolen and wrecked on the front end... No interior damage. The body shop guys told me that the rebuild is great. Because it is rebuilt, my car does not qualify. Which I think is completely unfair. Side note... I have owned three RX350's in the past 16 years, from the same dealership, in addition to the IS250. You would think that would mean something.

I recently bought my 2007 is250 used from a lot in Northern California and drove it down to So Cal down the 5 freeway in 106 degree heat. I drove the whole way down with the AC off and the windows open. LoL. When I bought it, I didn't notice anything wrong with the dash. It seemed in good shape. On the long drive down, I noticed a little bit of shine on the dashboard and a very slight stickiness. It wasn't too bad though and it didn't really bother me. Now I have the car home and it's still not too bad, although I did notice a very slight hairline crack beginning to form to the left of the center air vent. It's not noticeable if you're not looking for it. The shininess seems to come and go as the temperature increases and decreases. We shall see how it goes as we hit the much hotter month of August and September. It would be such bad luck on my part if the dash survived 15 years with the previous owners with no issue and just started melting with me. LoL. I've owned a lot of cars and this is the first time I've had to worry about the dash. Oh well, it's the price I pay I guess for being obsessed with driving manual transmission.

Follow up: So, I have had several conversations with Lexus corporate about my issue in thread #22 that I posted on 7/25/2022. They definitely are giving me the runaround. I have requested documents relating to this "campaign" that would contain all of the model years and details included. So far, nothing. Except, Lexus now claims that Experian reported my car as having a title that states a total loss. Not accurate at all. I spent hours on the phone with Experian, with 3 or 4 people, as this kept getting escalated. I have a paid account with Experian, and they could not find any record of reporting my title status to Lexus. NO RECORD. However, in my most recent conversation with Lexus, the woman I spoke to kept insisting that my title is a total loss. She basically tried to argue with me. The fact that I have a rebuilt title, in my opinion, does not negate the defective parts that were install in my car, at the factory. This has prompted me to seek out legal counsel for a potential class action suit to include owners of the affected model years to replace these parts. In my case, dash, and all interior door panels. My stance is that this defect came out of the factory, and has nothing to do with the classification of the title. Has anyone else had this problem? This is a manufacturer defect. Lexus sued the manufacturer in order to replace these defective parts.

I don't know what the campaign number is. I have spoken to Lexus corporate three times. I have also contacted one of the law firms that handled this previously in a class action. Lexus is being nice, but I am not getting anywhere. They keep telling me that they are escalating it, but when I talk to them, they tell me the same thing... investigating. They insist that Experian has reported my car as a total loss and they won't replace. First, I have a rebuilt title. It says it on the title. Second, I stand on the fact that the dash and door panels came out of the factory with the defect and were not affected in the front end damage that was repaired. Third, the car has been closely examined and a "health check" run by Lexus, and nothing is wrong with it. Fourth, Experian has no record of reporting the car status to Lexus, and they don't see my car anywhere because I paid cash for it. I feel that they are stalling. I also asked Lexus for the campaign information documents, and cannot get them so far. Try this link. Just found it. Secondary expiration date is 1/8/2026 for ZLZ... https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/tsbs/20...45764-9999.pdf

Can a member who had the dash and door panels replaced under the Customer Support Program, confirm how long the replacement process takes the Lexus technician to complete (2 hours etc..) when the vehicle is brought in?
Additional information located in the following threads however, did not see it confirmed;https://www.clublexus.com/forums/is-...nt-recall.html
