07 is250 AWD front shaft
Hey guys new to the forums here. Haven’t been able to find anything anywhere on this question. Having a problem currently. My front drive shaft for my AWD is250 is blown has back and forth play in and out all around and clunks and make noise when driving and when slowing down shutters my car. Now obviously I’m going to replace it but need a few days to get and order the front shaft. My question is , is it safe to remove the front shaft and drive it like that for a few days till I get the new one in ? Or is there a way to safely remove it and drive it that way for a few days ? Or will I burn it up and I’m stuck waiting ? I have no other vehicle this is what I’m driving everyday only reason I would even do something like this. Please let me know with any details or response.

I believe the front drive shaft I can literally put my hand on it and move it in and out and when driving it literally throws grease everywhere not sure if there’s supposed to be a boot or not but if there is there blown because I can see the joints. I can literally shove it in and out. But axles seem to look good actually unless they leaked out some grease ? The boots look fine but maybe I’m wrong? I mean either way i was thinking of pulling front shaft out and running it that way and seeing and if problem remained is it possible to run it rwd momentarily ? Buy removing shaft and front axles ? Sorry not familiar with this car at all. I’ve done it to my g35x but I know these cars are a bit more touchy so not sure what my limits are.

He's talking about the front shaft, not the axle.
I don't know if it's "safe" to drive without the shaft, but I don't see why it would cause an issue. The only piece left on the front differential assembly will be the coupler. It will just spin with the rotation of the wheels. There shouldn't be any fluid or grease that leaks out from there. Both ends of the drive shaft fit into a coupler on the transmission end and the front differential assembly. When you remove the shaft there will only be the coupler exposed. You may have the endcaps of the shaft left stuck in the coupler plate though.
