Default Question

Looking for a used IS, probably 100-130,000 miles since that is what my budget affords. Want to get the 350 but I am curious about the timing chain leak. Is this a guarantee like the LS 400 PS Pump? Those will eventually leak but the fix is easier than what I am reading on the timing chain leak, which is $$$$$
Do the 250's leak like this as well?
Thanks

I don't think that's a common issue. What's relatively more prevalent is the water pump and the alternator going bad as the car gets older.

Thanks, is there a certain mileage where this is likely to occur? In the LS about 200K and these services need done.

Ive looked into it myself and the only thing I found was that they usually go bad around the higher mileage point. There are some ways to look out for a failing water pump such as coolant leaking, engine overheating, possibly a squeaking noise from the belt. As for the alternator, ive had problems with my previous cars (Toyota and Nissan) and they usually go bad around 200k miles. Usually i get someone to charge the battery and if drains then i know its the alternator or you could also check the power gauge and see if the volts are decreasing. Hope this helps in anyway.
