Hi All
I'm completely new to the Lexus brand so not sure if what I'm hearing in my newly acquired 2009 IS250 SE-L AUTO is normal or not. Firstly it's an immaculate example with full Lexus history and drives absolutely beautifully BUT when accelerating or cruising, or even slowing down come to think of it, there is a strange sound which would appear to be coming from beneath the gear lever area (or perhaps further towards the front behind the dashboard maybe - it's hard to tell but definitely in the middle area somewhere!) which is rather annoying but perhaps normal. I can only describe the sound as what you would hear if blowing through a straw. If, for example, I accelerate from zero, the sound gets louder as the engine accelerates, and continues while cruising and braking. Like I said, it drives spot on so is this normal for this car? Seems a bit odd so I'm really hoping somebody here will know exectly what this noise it! It's nothing to do with the aircon or vents etc, definitely something to do with the drive of the vehicle/engine or similar! Hope somebody can reassure me this is normal as it's a really lovely car apart from this.
Thank you in advance!

Pulleys, tensioner, water pump, bearings or serpentine belt under the hood (bonnet) often make similar sounds. You can try spraying little bit of water on the belt and see if it stops for a bit.

Hi Primavera, thank you for replying, and for attaching the video. The sound is very different to that I'm afraid, it's more of an air noise than a squeel. I will try the water test on the belt tomorrow but the noise actually isnt there in idle. Thanks again.

Thanks 2013FSport, I will check this first thing in the morning. I think it still happens when the fans are switched off completely but I will check this for sure.
