What is the best phone holder for the 2nd Gen IS?
Hopefully this is an easy question to answer. I'm trying to find the best phone holder for my 2010 IS350. I've tried a few with limited success. I tried one that secures on the vent, but that didn't work because my phone is very big (OnePlus 7T) so it blocked the air and kept slanting down. I tried one that clips on the dash, but it will only clip in the middle of the dash so it blocks some of my view. I next tried a holder that goes into the CD player, but even with the adapters that are used for bigger slots it keeps flying out at the wrong time. Yesterday I got the Phone cup holder from WeatherTech (I got it free) and that absolutely does not work for this car. First of all only the smallest cup size fits, and it is so loose that the phone constantly spins and secondly the placement of the cup holder in the 2nd Gen is not the most ideal. I keep hitting it with my arm, and when I switch gears I have to move my arms around it.
I don't like the suction cup type that goes on the dash because in the summer they melt and leave a sticky glue like substance, and I literally ruined my dash in my Camry. Plus they have to be constantly re-seated. I've had the same issue with Window mounted phone holders, I've had them fly off at the wrong time.
So guys, I'm just out of ideas. I need a quality holder that actually works!

After a bunch of research I decided to go with the ProClip console mount (Item no. 833849) and adjustable phone holder (Item no. 711042) which was designed specifically for the 2nd Gen IS. A bit on the pricey side but it can be mounted without any hardware and seems like this is one of the better solutions. Also they have a 30 day return policy so if it doesn't work out I will just return them. I found a post on here where someone used it and it seems like this should work out well

I use it, for example I use Google Maps a lot. Also I stream through my phone routinely. It has to be accessible while I'm driving. Plus I don't think it will fit in that area, even if I remove the ashtray as it's a pretty big phone

I received the ProClip today as it was on backorder, and the install was pretty straight-forward. Place the Console mount to the left side console, then screw on the phone holder. It seems to be of good material workmanship, but I can foresee a few issues. First of all the phone holder itself is adjustable by loosening two screws, adjusting to your phones width and then tightening. There is nothing at the bottom to hold your phone in place, and the phone holder does not have any rubberized or non-slip material that could potentially stop the phone from sliding out. Secondly, for the amount I paid for this, they should have had a spring release like other phone holders so you can secure the phone and release it instantly. Lastly, I can foresee my son's big clunky legs hitting the phone holder when he sits in the front seat. He's usually in his own world and doesn't pay much attention to anything else. Thank God he's more into studying than girls...for now. Anyway, I will know over the next few days if it's worth the money...

So far the ProClip seems to be working. It is solid, doesn't rattle, holds the phone in place. Is easy to see the screen and reach. The only thing is if you have a passenger with bigger legs, you have to tell them not to lift them up while under the holder, although it could probably withstand anything but super hard knee butting
