2010 Lexus IS250: How to Replace Center Console Light
Does anyone know how to replace the center console lightbulb (gearshift indicator light) in a 2010 Lexus IS250? My local Lexus service center is quoting me $292 for the part (35978A). I’m not sure if this, part is the only and cheapest way to replace this bulb (see attached photo for details).
This is the bulb needing replaced.
Lindsay Lexus of Alexandria Parts Dept. Representative told me the only option to replace the bulb is order Part number 35978A.
Here is where to get an E74 bulb 💡 for $0.41 + $5.99 shipping. Jackson Lighting and Electric supply. They have awesome customer service and fast shipping.
It's actually very simple. Disconnect the actual wiring connector block and remove the wire from the hooks in the plastic channel, this helps make it easier to remove. Then once the wire is all out then just twise the base black holder and the bulb holder will disengage and pull it out. When replacing the bulb, if you are replacing with a halogen bulb just pull out the blue silicone sleeve and re-insert it onto the new bulb and re-fit it in reverse order. Remember to tuck the cable back into the clips. Also once complete, remember there is a black vinyl wrap kind of material that blacks out the light from going downwards. If you don;t have you could put insulation tape. The idea is to block light from bleeding in directions you do not want. I upgraded mine to an LED as pictured below:
If you cant find a bulb thatll work there, your next best bet would be to buy that part from people who crashed their car and is selling parts from it.

It should not be hard to find the bulbs: https://www.ebay.com/itm/181229375374 They are standard 286 bulbs mainly used for old-style instrument clusters etc. You could also look to get ones that are already blue coated so you dont need to worry about transferring the blue silicone sleeve. But it's not difficult to transfer the sleeve.

That's seriously a rip-off. I've changed these bulbs for many people. Its a few bucks to do and so easy. When you change it you will be laughing at that ridiculous quote lol
