Default 2006 Is250 148k Moved to a mild climate. What oil should I use?

Used 0w30 during the winter when I lived in a colder climate. I now live in SoCal. Prior to the move this summer the shop put 5w30 in it. It has been running fine but I can hear (what appears to be) a brief cam noise on cold starts. Started happening after about 4k miles.

I know this is a highly debated topic, but what should I use when I change my oil this week? Thanks for any help.

Unless your going to tempratures that require the 0w oil then the 5w30 will be just fine. If you want to baby the thing run mobil 1 5w30 extended performance or pennzoil ultra platinum 5w30 or castrol 5w30 extended performance or any other top of the line 5w30 synthetic from any top brand. I used PUP 5w30 myself before. Most important thing is changing the oil every 5k preferrably and the oil filter, and make sure it reaches operating tempratures each drive.

Switch to Amsoil signature series 5 30 and see if the noise goes away. It did on my is250 when I switched from Mobil 1

Use the recommended oil weight listed in your manual, which for the 2nd gen I believe is 5W30 (0W30 will be fine). Any quality synthetic will work. I live in Northern Cal, but drive to SoCal frequently and 5W30 synthetic works as it's supposed to. My last trip to SoCal in the summer the temp was 112F, no issues whatsoever

FWIW I have 6 Lexus vehicles some with 300,000 miles. I dont know the science or the reason but they ALL run quieter with Amsoil Signature series. Compression is still fine In the high mileage 4.7’s which have had mobile 1 synthetic most of their life. They just quieted down with SS. The LS and IS really quieted down on start up when I switched them over to SS a year ago. The op was asking about noise on start up. Ymmv

I don't think that noise is any concern as long as it goes away. It's a combo of the DI injectors and the rich mixture at startup (more fuel is added using a richer AFR). The sound should normalize in 10 to 15 seconds. The way to know if your oil is not protecting the engine properly is to send some of your used oil that you collect after doing your oil change to a lab like Blackstone labs for analysis (I send a sample every other oil change or at least once a year).

I use an inexpensive synthetic oil (Idemitsu 5W30) for my Lexus and my 2006 Camry SE (155K miles) and it's done it's job as its suppose to. Only normal wear shows up in the analysis
