Hey guys. I'm new to the forum and just recently purchased my 2008 IS350 with 25,000mls. This car is super clean & I'm really enjoying it so far! I've been reading up on some of the threads and decided that at my next oil change I'd make the switch to Mobile 1 full synthetic and already bought a few OEM filters to have on hand. From other posts I've read, it sounds like I can go 15,000mls or more using synthetic but will need to replace the filter at 6,000-7,500mls. The only thing I'm not sure of (and this could be a subject of debate) is whether or not synthetic oil viscosity breaks down over time like they always used to say conventional did, you know the old addage "change oil very 3,000 or 3 mo, which comes 1st" lol. The reason I ask is because I'll only be driving this car around 1,000mls per year (when I'm down in florida a few wks of the year). I really don't want to change the oil every time I come down here but if I just go by mileage, I would be changing the filter every 6 yrs and the oil every 15yrs?? That sounds kind of crazy too! Also, with it sitting fairly long periods of time, should I use higher quality oil filters like amsoil, etc? Please let me know your thoughts...
Oh, I'm planning on getting a new set of Michelin Pilot sports as the existing tires are stamped with dates from 09(front) and 2010(rear). The tread isn't terrible but they have a descent vibration to them.

Suggest you use synthetic oil. If the car will be for leisure and therefore will not accumulate a lot of mileage, just replace the oil and filter every year. In your case, use synthetic oil, and Toyota oil filter. Welcome to the forum.

Thx for the reply! So you would say that synthetic oil does break down from just sitting in the engine for a year with less than 1,000 mls on it, needing it to be changed each year? Any other opinions out there?? I was leaned in this direction but was hoping to be persuaded otherwise lol
