Default Winter Tire Set ups for 2IS/3IS (RWD)

Hey Guys Need some Help and Advice on the Front Tire set up for 2006 Lexus IS350(RWD) Lowered on Tien Springs. Its gonna be a few Noob Question but need some help on this. I was told to Run Square set up better for winter(NYC) since its RWD.
What Brand Winter Tires are you guys running? Im on Bridgestone Blazz WS90
Whats the size your running Front and Rear? Mine is 235/30/18 (Front) 225/45/18(Rear Square set up) Not sure whats the Square set up for front.

Appreciate all the advice i can get since my Front just blew yesterday before getting home.

Just recently bought set of General Altimax Arctic 12, square setup 225/50/17 for my RWD. Great tires in deep snow and slush, good stopping, steering and braking, right tires for Canadian winters. They're made by Continental in Germany and are also cheaper then big names Blizzaks and Michelin.
If you need square setup for 18" wheels then 225/45/18 is the way to go.

I bought a set of 17" steel wheels for a 2017 Rav4 to put on my car in the winter, with a set of tire pressure sensors. I have a set of Nokian Hakkapeliitta R3s on there, all 245/45/17. That's working really well for me so far!

This is Jeeves on his Toyota winter wheels and Nokians.

Are both your summer and winter rims "programmed" into the computer ? I was wondering can you program two sets of rims - or do you need to reprogram each solstice?

You turned that vehicle into a SNOWMOBILE!
Great use of RAV rims and SERIOUS snow go rubber !

My car is on coilovers and sits low enough the exercise would be futile for any significant snow, but still worth the effort for ice/slush/freezing rain.

Yeah, they're genuine Lexus sensors I got from my local dealer, about $40/sensor, I think (Canadian), and then I had them programmed, which I think cost an hour of shop time. $300 CAD, all in for the sensors.

The tires are amazing. I originally wanted Hakkapelliitta 9s on there, but the parts guy said those are good for snow rather than ice, which is typically what we have to deal with in Montreal, so I went with the R3s, which are better on ice.

I'm very happy with it.

The one thing I noticed, though, is that with black wheels, the rear ones get SUUUUPER dirty almost right away. They must pick up the splashes from the front wheels or something. I dunno how people with black alloys all year stay sane.

Well - I give you credit for doing it right. Dealer co$ts more - but you should drive away with no lights and an expectation the sensors will last (mostly) the life of your car. Insane it even has to happen. Sensors in the rim are absolutely unnecessary - except to satisfy lawyers and brain dead owner /operators : )
Your set up LOOKS GREAT - and I suspect works even better than it looks.

Might as well get over the fact those rims are a royal PITA to keep presentable. I also have a black / gunmetal set up - and requires regular attention - in order to GET "attention". -and our cars DO get attention !
(in the most positive way)

Over the years of using snow tires I have learned there are two types. Max snow / Max dry road traction - think Blizzack in "WS" flavor {MAX SNOW} or "LM" flavor {MAX DRY TRACTION}. Took me awhile to learn "max snow traction" causes the vehicle to slide alot more easily on a DRY road AND they actually feel like they grow at high speeds - like 90MPH and up - very unnerving.

Yes - I know they are speed rated for subsonic speeds - but kids just wanna have fun ; )

But the I think Tire Rack calls . . ." Performance Winter " - flavor "LM" are incredible !
They do give up alittle deep snow traction but boy oh boy - what an improvement as a daily driver for someone who likes to use the throttle -

i LOVED my Blizzack LM-22's L-O-V-E-D them (mounted on a 96 Impala SS BBHP 6 speed : ) - they were awesome! All the wiggle & squiggle (tech terms) of the deep snow "WS" tire - GONE! Off ramps were fun again.

One more thing I forgot to mention - Lexus does 2 sets of sensors right. There is no pain in the *** start the car/pump the brakes/turn off the car dance like my girlfriend's F150. You push the centre button in the satellite switches (below the gage panel dimmer, those 3 buttons with ON/OFF and left or right arrows) until you see the tire pressure sensor section, select the set you want to use, and that's it.

Why running 235/30/18 that a odd ball size to run? For stagger on RWD i have run 225/40 front and 245/40/28 rear oem rim. Or 225/40/18 all around. Blizzak tires.

Is this an IS250 or IS350? Do the RAV4 steelies clear the IS350 brakes?

It’s a 250. The stock wheel size on this year (2011) for both models is 17”, so I think they should fit a 350, but definitely test fit one before committing to the setup.
