Hello everyone and Happy Fathers Day! This question is actually pertaining to my 2013 Toyota Sienna with the 3.5L V6 2GRFE engine. Engines are different from my IS350 but the problems solution would probably be similar. Yesterday while driving on a highway with steep inclines and was a bit winding, my Check Engine/Trac Off light turned on. Cruise Control also was disabled. I was reading this can be caused by a defective speed sensor, but is there anything else I should look for? Maybe a fuse? I know this is a non 2IS question but hopefully someone can point me in the right direction

First thing is to plug in an OBD2 scan tool and read the codes. Don't worry about the Trac Off and non-functional cruise control while the check engine light is on unless the DTCs point you in that direction.

The codes pointed to the VVT-i actuator. Also the battery, which was nearing 5 years old. The van has mostly been sitting since November, as my wife currently commutes with a 2020 Hyundai Ioniq EV. I think we've driven this van maybe 3 times since getting the Ioniq. It was already nearing its next oil change before parking it, so the dirty oil that had been sitting 7 months caused VVT-i to malfunction. Changed the oil, new battery and the check engine is now gone and no new codes. Shows you that you have to change your oil even if your not driving it much...

My mechanic pulled the codes, I believe they were either P0011 or P0021. He doesn't believe the sensors are faulty, just the oil was a little lower than normal and dirty due to the van mostly sitting for 7 months. After changing the oil and resetting no codes have shown up again. CAM position changes in my engine usually happen after 4,500 rpm, I pushed it to 5K rpm and check engine hasn't come back
