How Do You Turnoff the TPMS Light?
#2
The TPMS system monitors the air pressure in your tires. If the air pressure drops more than 5 psi in one of the tires, the light comes on. So the first thing is to check all the tires for correct air pressure. If you do have a tire that is low on air and you fill it, the TPMS light in the dash will not go off right away. You have to drive the car a mile or two.
If all the tires have their correct air pressure, then you probably have one (or more) of the pressure sensors with a low or dead battery. The pressure sensors are inside the tire. the stem where you put in air is part of the sensor. If the battery is totally dead, the TPMS light in the dash should flash for a half minute or so when you first start the car.

No, the "CHECK SYSTEM" indication is not low tire pressure. Most likely one of the TPMS sensors in the wheels. These have a lithium battery that lasts about 10 years. His '08, if he's still running the original sensors, has 13 year old batteries that have been living on borrowed time.

May have to initialize the tire pressure system after inflating tire to recommended pressure (PSI). I believe Discount Tire has scanner to to perform a reset of the initialization does not work. It may be the sensor as Bichon stated if the mentioned procedures fail to turn off the TPS light;

Discount Tire will check for free. They should also have the capability to program as well. If you find there is one dead, or last leg battery wise. RockAuto.com has the Denso for cheap. Maybe buy all 4 new sensors. Then get Discount Tire to install.

TPMS are an unfortunate outcome from the Ford / Firestone blowout . . .

If they are original equipment - and one is suffering a dead battery - pony up the dough to replace all 4 . . .or is it 5 - I forget ifour spare runs a sensor? Probably does - plan for 5 $$$$$

In error, held in the INFO / On / Off button for over three seconds, and now the LOW TIRE message is displayed with the RED triangle icon (no Low Tire icon shown). Perhaps the button was set to Initial tire setting in error when button was held in too long. Does vehicle just need to be driven a while to have it return to normal?

I have an appointment with Discount Tires next week and 4 brand new Denso sensors. Can they do the full reprogramming? I have been reading about it and it appears as though it's not that easy of a job, requiring Toyota Techstream software. Thanks.

I thought it was possible to just change the battery in the sensor however, believe the sensor is sealed and battery is not accusable, and changing the sensor due to low battery is needed (OEM part 4260733022 (DENSO 5500103) - Tire Pressure Monitoring Sensor

Thank you for that information. I bought all the new sensors. I’m just wondering if Discount Tire is going to be able to install them and reset the system and all of my lights on the dash. They have already agreed to use the sensors I bring in which is great.

(Which is a difference procedure than those shops that require you to buy their generic sensors use; where they instead scan the serial numbers of your old sensors into their tool, and then clone those original numbers into generic TPMS sensors, eliminating the need to re-program new codes into the car)
