The last couple of days I've been using my wife's 2020 Hyundai Ioniq EV, so my baby's been parked. Today I opened the engine bay to check the fluids, and I found my dogs dry food neatly stacked on the battery. I thought maybe my daughter may have put her food bowl on the hood near the windshield and some fell, but closer inspection makes that impossible, as even leaves can't get past the gutter. Then I noticed on the driver's side strut tower more dog food neatly stored, with some partially eaten. You can also see droppings on top of the battery. Looks like the little ****s have been transporting dry dog food from her bowl about 20 feet away and storing it in my engine, one piece at a time. No wonder my dog has been the last few nights suddenly running from her bed on the deck and barking! Don't know if it's rats or mice, probably mice as it's a pretty tight fit
I discovered something similar upon starting maintenance on my IS350C.. I had the car shipped in from southern California, and I realized after removing the engine covers, that SOMETHING had been storing little miniature coconut looking things under the master cylinder that were not native to where I live. Luckily they didn't chew anything, but damn, it's annoying, isn't it?

If it came from SoCal, I bet those were round dates. The neighborhood in SoCal I grew up in had date palms that attracted rats. They would store them anywhere they could, including car engine's
When COVID and the lockdowns started, I don't think I really touched my IS for a month. They ended up making a nest right in that little spot by the battery. I had a bird feeder nearby so they were just bringing the seed over, along with the neighbor's dog fur, and made a little spot for themselves. Mouse droppings all over the battery and engine bay cover. Cleaned it up as best as I could, threw some of those mint baggies in the engine bay for a while and called it a day. Fortunately, they didn't chew on any wires. I saw them every so often after that, but they never went back to the car. These things were huge and they would perch up on the bird feeder late at night.

My engine bay is actually pretty clean, the strut tower area is where all the dirt and grime has accumulated. The first pic looks like that rat/mouse had a **** party, and I really, really don't want to know what that fluid is in the second pic...
At my new, temporary place of residence I'm surrounded my oak trees and plenty of squirrels. I pray that they don't use my car as food storage for their acorns! I currently don't drive it alot (work from home still), so it sits in the driveway at weeks at a time without getting moved.

On another note - trees here are starting to drop their nuts.
While sitting at a traffic light, I was hit by 3 within minutes of each other (squirrels F'g around in the branches) they absolutely dent our cars. Good luck.
Maybe move your car, shake the overhanging branches and put it back?
Yeah, I think I'm good. As long as I drive it everyday they don't have a chance to move in. If I have to park it for an extended amount of time I'll stick dryer sheets in there, hopefully I won't forget to take them out or I'll have the freshest smelling engine on the block!
