Default Alternator question

Hello, i am in the process of replacing my alternator. I bought a used oem alternator and is missing a stud. The stud did not connect to anything. should i swap the old stud onto the replacement alternator.
The stud is on the upper left corner.

Looking at pics of a new alternator it comes with the stud and a nut as well. Is something else missing that it is supposed to bolt to it? I guess you could swap it so junk doesn't built up in the bore. ...wait I think that might be a ground but don't connector the power lead to it!!!!!!

I think the stud is for the wire loom. Look it up in the last pages of the alternator DIY.

This is correct. It's for the wiring loom. My reman didn't come with it, so I had to remove it from my old alternator.

Yes. Double or triple-nut the stud and use the lowest nut to remove the stud from the ALT.

Default alternator change

regarding the alternator on the 2008 rx350....are there only two bolts holding it on [screwed in from the outside of the engine towards the center], or is there a third one that must be accessed with a lot of trouble and which screws in from the center of the engine towards the outside? it's hard for me to describe it better than that. two bolts or three?

Two bolts attach the alternator onto the aluminum engine bracket....there is a third bolt which attaches the back of the alternator onto a steel bracket. This steel bracket then attached onto the engine block.

thank you for the information regarding the three bolts. that one on the "back" looks like the tricky one to remove and replace. any suggestions on how to go about it??
