Default Fuel tank question

Quick question, where exactly is the fuel tank located on the 250? Does it get exposed to the elements under the car and prone to rust etc? How is it accessed and removed in the event it needs changing?

Unusual question tank is between the rear seats and the spare tire well. Other parts of the car will rust out before the tank it's coated and shielded. Replacing is not super difficult but time consuming. Here's what it looks like

I don't think the gas tank is even made out of metal on these, is it?

Not sure if you are asking for this reason or not, but the only real thing that MIGHT occasionally need to be serviced in the tank in the fuel pump unit, which can be accessed through a panel under the rear seat cushion.

I was asking because the underside of these cars tend to get very rusty. So wondering how exposed the fuel tank is. Is it visible from under the car?

Not sure about the sedan models, but on my IS350C, you can see the tank under the car. It is just forward of the rear differential, and how a bow in the middle to clear over the driveshaft. I assume it requires removal of the driveshaft to lower it out of the car.

Pretty sure it's some kind of plastic. It won't rust out, but the stuff holding it in place could. If you feel a thump and burst into flames, .... never mind.

Actually the big threat in 2022 is people poking holes in it steal fuel. Most are too stupid to know where it is, so they'll add drains to our trunk and flatten our spare tire. -sigh-

When I changed my fuel filters. It looked like the bottom had a sheet metal appearance. Similar to what you see on industrial AC ducts.

Good to know. Maybe the outside is coated for rust protection and sound deadening? I've never heard fuel slosh....

Yeah he's no Lexus technician but it does show you the gas tank location and how to drop it. That's why I linked it.
