Default Looking to buy a good Techstream cable

Hi, I searched here and on ih8mud forums, and still need help locating a good quality Techstream cable. I'm looking for the most capable, which I assume is the v2.0.x.

I ordered a v2.0.1 off eBay (for $80, twice the price of a v1.4.8 cable), and when I got it yesterday, the PCB looked like the older v1.4.x version, and the firmware on it was v 1.4.1. So I'm sending it back.

Can someone point me to a honest-to-god working v2.0.4 cable on AliExpress, Amazon, or eBay? Everyone is using copypaste descriptions and it just feels like listings from a single person.

Thanks!

I purchased one of those cables and I was able to successfully use Techstream with it, it most likely wasn't the 2.0.4 cable but what's the significance of the cable you're talking about?

I want a cable that would work on more models. And the v2 cable allows for ECU reprogramming, though I don't want or need to do that. But at this point, quite frankly, I may be okay with the lesser cable.

You can check out my notion page which details the cable vs other scan tools.

Basically v1.4.1 is slower and can't program and v2.0.4 is faster and gives you more things to do in Techstream. Page also has links to sites that are confirmed to have that version of cable you are looking for. v2 cables are at least double or triple the price than the v1. I bought the v1 just to reset the HVAC system due to the servo's being wonky when it rains...

Great resource! Thanks for sharing. Wish I knew this was available before I started researching this topic. I managed to get an older cable working, however I need to select the year and model each time I run Techstream.

Good info, thank you. Unfortunately, all the purchase links are either expired or unavailable. And the AliExpress listing seems a bit fishy as well. Which brings me back to the starting point, trying to figure out a reliable source for the v2.0.4 cable.

AliExpress is the only source that I know of to get a v2 cable unless you opt for a mongoose cable or even find a xhorse cable (really rare to find). Amazon could be your alternative but I only have been able to find the v1 cable that is always in stock, the v2 cable seems to be in a demand. A lot of it is to research the store reviews on AliExpress before buying.

A correction on your part, not all the purchase links are expired or unavailable. Everything but obdinnovations is working just fine. Your only reliable source is AliExpress or Amazon, you might find lucky in the marketplace here.

Anyone looking for information on the cable can just use my notion page as a guide, it was mainly created as documentation to help those looking to have the software work without issues from the start.

Thanks. I took a chance on AliExpress, will report back if it's the 2.0.4

Is this the same or not as good: https://www.aliexpress.us/item/3256804335614056.html
It has better product and seller reviews, but doesn't list a firmware version.

I believe they use their own firmware for updates. If speed of communication isn't a big issue, the v1 does just fine.

I had a VCI cable from eBay or Amazon at first but I had issues with it. It would read codes and program keys but would fail when I needed to do a zero point calibration. I now have a VXDiag Nano and it works perfectly with techstream. The company provides firmware updates fairly regularly for the device too.

This is the wired version, there is also a Wi-Fi version:

Don't do it the ghetto, cheap way. Get a real Techstream Lite.

I'm still relatively new to the 3IS platform and not 100% sure on what your intentions are with said Techstream cable, however if you are solely looking to just re-flash the ECU, you can use a Tactrix OpenPort 2.0 cable (link provided below) I've been tuning/datalogging Evo's for years now using this cable and was also able to use it to install an ECU flash tune on my 3IS. If it is able to flash the ECU, I'd imagine it is capable of doing anything else you need it to do through an OBD-II port connection.

Thoughts?
