Does sound like a rev flare. My 2023 does that too when cold at low speeds. Weird feeling, like it's throwing in a higher rpm during the shift. Subsequently, my 2020 did not have this feature.

I was hardly on the gas and the road were dry.
When I looked down I thought I saw 5th gear. regular mode.
The dead throttle has not happened since I first made the post. So three times a few months ago, and nothing since. I almost want to say maybe it was bad gas, but the chances of that are extremely slim. Dealer never found any codes and I haven't changed my driving habits in any way. Strange.

Right, between gears the RPMs jump a bit. This seems to happen a lot for me between 2nd and 3rd gear. In my IS 350, this phenomenon was a regular occurrence in the winter, and it seems to be similar for the 500 now. After driving for a minute or two, everything settles down to normal. It's just that initial pulling out onto a street when I observe tihs.

Need to revive this thread.

Had the "dead" gas pedal again yesterday. But this time it was very distinct what took place. Was in normal drive mode, traffic jammed in front of me, and I came to a very fast stop. The car in front of me was a few feet ahead of my bumper. Then when I went to accelerate on the green, gas pedal was dead. It then slowly gained it's normal speed. So, now it's got me thinking, did I also come to a sudden stop the first three times it happened? I think at least on two of them, yes. Or one was a downhill and I had to apply the brakes harder than normal. But all times there was a car in front of me that was closer than the usual space I leave at a stop. And all of the times there were no warning lights or buzzers that went off.

So maybe the car goes into some stupid safety mode after it thinks I cut it too close ??? But what could possibly be the saving grace for not allowing someone to move away from a stop after a fast stop already occurred? Trying to make sense of this, and/or perhaps something is still not right with the computer or sensors to allow a dead gas pedal. Total time it's happened in one year is four. Seems like a hazard if one cannot pull away from a green light and I've never heard of any car doing this.

Thoughts?

Consider yourself lucky. I think I experience it at least once every time I drive the car, it's my single biggest complaint about the car. I have noticed if I disconnect the battery and let it sit for a bit it seems significantly improved for a couple hundred miles before starting to act up again so I don't believe it to be mechanical but some quirk in the ecu learning.

It has learned, and is telling you “I didn’t like that, don’t do it again, you stupid &$@#* human!”

LOL! Man, what a dumb feature though. Not being able to pull away when traffic is expecting you to does not accomplish anything positive.

Is there a name to the above ? It's time to have a talk with Lexus Corp, but I need to know what to call it.

The description sounds a lot like what has happened to me a few times when I step on the gas but still have the brake pedal partially depressed (try it and see if that matches your experience after hard braking). Wonder if maybe the brake system hasn’t fully released for some reason, and triggers the lack of throttle response you’ve seen.
