IS350 louder noise at idle during cold start
2015 IS350 59,000 miles. In last few days my car has experienced louder than normal idling during cold start in the morning. It sounds like clicking from the pully/belt area in the front of engine. Does it sound normal to anyone? What would be the cause? Do you think it is a water pump issue? There is no coolant leak at this point. This noise will disappear when the engine is warm. Can someone shed some light?

Does the noise go away with higher RPM? Do you have any squeaking/ticking at low RPM while you're moving? If so, it is probably a belt (possibly serpentine belt). It is a little hard to tell the exact nature of the noise from the video - whether it is a "ticking" or more of a "squeaking". But 59,000 miles seems like around the time you'd need to start looking at belts.

Thank you arentz07. I was referring to the continuous "ticking" noise in the video. If I apply throttle, the engine rpm noise already covers it so it is hard to hear again.
How soon are we supposed to replace the serpentine belt in these cars? Anyone have the Lexus part number of it handy?

Lexus.com says the belts should be inspected at 60k miles. Sometimes they'll last longer than that. On my wife's former car, the drive belt lasted about 51k miles before it started squeaking at low RPM.
I listened to the video again, and honestly, I am not sure if it's belts - I just guessed that based on mileage. It could be something else, like the fuel pump. I would just take it in for diagnosis if I were in your shoes. I am not good at guessing. lol

I don t hear anything bad. It s not a belt issue. The ticking can be normal on a cold engine in most cars. It could be an injector noise which is also normal. If the sound goes away after warmed up then I d say it s all normal . I see this type of question all the time on other forums, engines make sounds. Have your local mechanic listen in person if it makes you feel better but I m guessing you're fine.
