2019 Lexus IS 300 Interior Rattling
Good Morning all,
I just recently bought a used 2019 Lexus IS 300... this car is super clean and I fell in love with it as soon as I saw it. I drove it all the way back Houston to Arkansas and loved the drive in it until..... I started hearing this very faint rattle.
I have not been able to do a lot of diagnosing to the car but I am fairly certain the rattling is coming from somewhere under the steering column. It sounds like it is coming from the steering column shroud trim under the steering column. I think it is plastic or a clip clanking against something and really only begins to happen after I have been driving for 5-10 minutes and proceeds to come and go depending on how fast I am going and the conditions of the road. Ultimately, it is not that big of a deal but I am super OCD about my car - especially since I just bought it. I have been reading through the forums and have seen lots of people talking about different dash rattle issues and common fixes to the problems. I wanted to create a new post and see if anyone has had this same issue on their IS.
I am very tempted to take the car to my local Lexus dealer and let them look at it but I also have seen many people talk about how it can be very hit or miss depending on who works on the car and if they can even hear the sound or not. I have a friend who drove a 2015 IS 350 F sport and he said he had the same rattle in his car but he is in Houston and I want to try and get another opinion from someone on here.
The reason I think that the steering column shroud trim piece (plastic trim directly under the steering column) is the culprit of this issue is because, when I tap on it I can re-create the exact sound I am hearing when driving and it sounds like it could be a little loose or something inside is loose. Does anyone know if there is a quick and cheap fix to this problem? I am open to any and all suggestions regarding this. PLEASE HELP!!
Thanks!

Don’t have the issue, but a small piece of foam or felt, tucked in the right spot can solve a lot of rattles, unless it’s a loose wiring loom, in which case you may need to drop the trim piece to secure or insulate the loom.
