Perhaps I should rephrase. If you laid both the chop and the real deal over each other, the profile is remarkable similar. It's the body lines that make the real difference. On the chop they are more horizontal which gives a very BMW-esque feel. On the 3IS many of the lines including the belt and side skirt/rockers sweep upward toward the rear of the vehicle. It's very apparent from the B-Pillar back as the line rises at roughly a 40 degree angle into the rear wheel well. If you imagined that line continuing on through to the other side it meets the tail light which is a sharp point on the side of the rear quarter panel. Continuing to sweep up until it wraps around in a tailored manor. The fenders on the chop seem more pronounced in the front and less in the rear while it's the other way around on the 3IS. The chop has black button on the driver and passenger front door handles. The 3IS does not anymore. Rather it is reminiscent of GS, CT, GX, RX and HS with the locking indentations.

That's all I can tell from just a side profile of the chop. Hope that helps.

And if anyone missed my actual description and not just a comparison of the chop vs 3IS, please see post #5

i disagree with the comparison to the bmw. the new bmw 3xx looks like crap - lost a lot of its sportiness. this reminds me of an acura a little bit...either way, i like it and it does lend credence to the flexibility of the cc as a sedan and a coupe.

We're talking about bold horizontal lines. The chop of the LF-CC As a sedan does resemble a 3 Series if you layed one atop the other save for tailored tweaks that make one a Lexus and one a BMW. Saying it looks like crap is neither descriptive nor much of a reason. The 3IS will be the most aggressive (looking) in class vs the competition and it's too early to tell how it will drive but if it's anything like its older 4GS brother then it will also be sportiest in class

With the addition of the 8spd auto in the IS350, I imagine we will see improved performance and mileage? Will it be similar to the unit in the ISF? Very exciting news! Im do to replace the wifes 2008 IS350 next fall and its between this and a 2013 GS

Would you still recommend someone getting the current IS or waiting for the new one. My dad is seriously considering an IS350, more looking at a 2011/12 CPO, but maybe a new one. Is the '14 radically different to make someone kick themselves for not waiting?

Well it's pretty subjective. The current IS is outstanding and the 11-13 model 2IS's are the best out there in terms of reliability for the model run. They've had plenty of time to perfect and refine it.

The 14 IS will be out in June, which by then your dad will have some time to check it out (Lexus will show it at Detroit in January). So it'll come down to personal preference. If he prefers the 2IS then he's sure to get a great deal.

The 3IS (IMO) takes what we love about the 2IS and makes it even better with even more to offer.

Tx for getting this thread rolling Hoovey.

I'm a convertible sort of guy, in your experience will Lex launch the C at the same time as the sedan and or coupe, or hold off for a while?

I assume they'll keep it in the line up, I know BMW sell a lot of verts as do Audi, not sure about Volvo.

I expect IS C is a very small % of the Lex line up. Is that shown as a separate number anywhere, or lumped in with all IS sales..

Keep it coming.

Tx
