Im afraid that the center console and dash of the IS will look too similar to the CT and HS where it is a sea of black plastic. I actually like the look of having the silver plastic that was used for so many years because at least it adds some sort of contrast and color, even if it is fake aluminum. It looks like there wont be wood in the shifter area nor where the heated/cooled seat buttons will be. Where will they put the wood?

yes...look at what they did with the GS prototype test drive. Those areas with black shiny plastic or wood or silver pieces were covered up with tape. In the IS, those areas are not covered up at all and look identical to the plastic used in the CT and HS dashes. I can only assume that it will look like that at production

i think you are wrong and are assuming too much... most of what they didnt cover doesnt look production material at all....
I dont think you can apply too much sense to it compared to GS - for instance in GS they didnt cover leather dash or leather around transmission tunnel... here they covered anything that isnt black, including leather on the dash and leather around transmission tunnel. So, definitely not the same.
Even the black plastic here is not like in CT... its flat... CTh has sparkles inside.

Hard to tell what the 3IS interior is really like.
Its obvoiusly based on the LF-CC concept car.

The prototype is certainly simple, few panels, few joins, few lines, clean and slick!
Similar in concept to the 34 year old Porsche 928 and the new BM 6 Series.
Lexus should use similar concepts to Porsche and BM, though Lexus should not plagiarize!
Plagiarism will result in Lexus being hit over the head with a dust pan.
Hopefully the real 3IS isn't full of panels, full of joins, fulls of lines, busy, fussy, and messy.
Godda wait for the real thing.
Unfortunately, the 4GS's interior finished full of panels, full of joins, full of lines, and the lower half of the central dashboard even slopes inwards [so that it is NOT smooth], the sat nav doesn't have such a graceful shape either [boring/bland] - so this is quietly one of the main reasons why so far, in the first 9 months, despite heaps of praise from owners and forum members, the new 4GS has actually only sold at probably 2/3 the volume of its predecessor the 3GS, which through L-Finesse styling managed to amass 33,457 units in the USA in its first year 2005!
At the end of the day, Toyota doesn't really pay attention to how much forum members harp about a car - Toyota does pay attention to whether the public actually signs on the dotted line and purchases the car, or does not purchase the car - registered as sales...

thats because joints are taped off to hide leather or metal/plastics... you will have plenty of smaller panels, simply because all Toyota's are built so they can be repaired easily... so easy access is high on the list of priorities. It is very different from German cars.

Well, hopefully in 1 month and 5 days, the 3IS interior looks as much like the prototype LF-CC as possible.
The LF-CC interior is truly slick, and would certainly rock the market.
That type of LF-CC interior styling will definitely draw buyers to the showroom to sign on the dotted line...

However, notice how in 2005, the RX amassed 108,775 units, and in 2010, the aging RX still amasses 95,790 units.
Likewise, in 2005, the E Class amassed 50,383 units; in 2010, the E Class amasses 60,922 units!
Excuses doesn't work.
Get the product right.
Get the styling right. Don't have threads questioning the 4GS rear styling?
Make sure the interior is spacious; don't have people complaining about the lack of foot room in the 4GS.
Get the engine, chassis, ride, refinement etc right.
Then, hey presto, a great selling car like the RX and E Class, regardless of the times.
The exterior styling, interior space, and the mechanical prowess of the next generation 3IS, are the most critical factors in the success/failure of the 3IS - whether buyers will sign on the dotted line, or not.
Lexus has an opportunity here.
Let's see what happens...

From time to time, we will hear talk about the economy.

Let's hope the next 3IS standard/base model has a nice ride for the mass public.
The F Sport version can be as firm as it likes - for the small number of enthusiasts out there.
Apparently, the current 2IS F Sport is said to have too firm a suspension for its typo.
The IS-F and Benz C36 SledgeHammer are also said to be too firm, where the current aging M3 V8 is said to be compliant.
So something for the next 3IS to think about.
Meanwhile, making the IS350 handle like an IS250 is possible, but will be a tough ask.
Coz 350 has bigger heavier block? Bigger heavier radiators etc?
In some small ways, the IS350 is the equivalent of a GS460 V8 - here, with a really heavy nose.
Apparently, the new 3IS 2.5 has the old 6 speed auto tranny, while the new 3.5 has the 8 speed auto tranny - hence the new 3.5 is really like the 4.6 with an 8 speed auto tranny...

I only own the IS250, and I have driven the IS350 rocketship.
Did you find the standard model IS250 a bit small at the rear, and a bit too firm on the suspension?
I mean, the C Class and 3 Series are far more spacious and compliant?
