2IS IS350 dimensions:
Length - 4580 mm (85mm shorter than 3IS)
Width - 1800 mm (10mm shorter than 3IS)
Height - 1415 mm (15mm shorter than 3IS)
Wheelbase - 2730mm (70mm shorter than 3IS)

Definately a few inches longer than the 2IS to increase the backseat space, other dimensions pretty negligible. Still would like to know the weight.

Compare that with the 4th gen GS that donated the chassis for the new 3rd gen IS :

Length : 4580 (2IS) 4665 (3IS) 4850 (4GS)
Width : 1800 (2IS) 1810 (3IS) 1840 (4GS)
Height : 1415 (2IS) 1430 (3IS) 1455 (4GS)
Wheelbase : 2730 (2IS) 2800 (3IS) 2850 (4GS)

Included for interest the Infiniti Q50 dimensions :
Length : 4783
Width : 1824
Height : 1443
Wheelbase : 2850

Curb weight: 3,795 (GS 350, RWD); 3,527 (2IS 350, RWD);

This means the 3IS should have around 3650 as the curb weight. It may not be any faster than the current iterations even with the 8 speed.

usage of newer techniques such as high tensile steel usage will help for sure, but otherwise you might be right... it might be 3600 for instance too. I know that if it was lighter, it would be advertised as lighter... but since the wheelbase grew by 3".... Also new technology is usually heavier too... so whatever they lost by using high tensile steel, they probably gained back and more by making the car a bit bigger and giving it more tech and safety.

It should still be lighter than 3GS though.

Is the IS250 going to be subject to the carbon build-up problems of the 2IS?

We'll have to wait and see how the carbon issue is on models sold after 2010, as that's when Lexus updated the pistons, etc. in the 4GR-FSE, but I haven't seen any information showing that they've added D4-S to the 4GR, and they didn't in other models like the GS250, so it looks like the same engine/setup is going to be offered moving forward.

I'd be happy to give up a couple tenths if the back seat is more useable. . Handling should also be better. Can't wait for the reviews

WOW... ok so the rear tires are 255's... ... I guess that's around 9 inches in wheel width?

I know everybody targets the 3 series when designing and developing this class of cars but those demension specs are pretty much an exact close of the new 3 series. I'm glad they added some major length to the car because those back seats were way too small.
