Lexus IS to get Turbocharged Four-Cylinder Engine?
#17
Plenty of people buy the 328, and the C240, the A4...all 4cyl.
Remember the 528 is a 4cyl now too, as is the base Jaguar XF, the base A6...
4cyls in $40k+ cars are happening in a big way, so if you're a buyer in this segment, I'm not sure what else you could buy that wouldn't be a 4cyl, unless you step up to the higher engine offerings.

The iconic BMW M5 is already going to stop producing manual transmissions next year I believe.
Ferrari doesn't produce manuals anymore - period. Porsche is probably the last bastion of the manual transmission, but I suspect even they'll get with the times eventually.
If driving a car is analogous to watching television at home, I liken a manual transmission to changing channels by physically getting out of your chair to press channel +/- on the cable box sitting above the T.V.
A paddle shifting variant is analogous to having a remote control (you still have just as much control over which channel (gear) you want, only now you're eliminating useless, wasteful movements like getting out of your chair to change channels).
An automatic shifting variant is like having a TV that will select channels for you (nothing like this exists in real life but I figured I'd throw it in to complete the analogy).
Paddle shifting DCT > manual transmission > automatic transmission

I've driven the 4cyl 3 series and 5 series, and let me tell you the performance is good, the engines are light and handling is excellent. If you're saying you would "never buy a 4cyl 3, C, A4, or IS and would buy an Accord or Camry instead...thats your loss. Way more to a car than the number of cylinders in the engine.
I wouldn't buy the 4cyl 5, but I would buy the 4 cyl 3.

That maybe true but you don't get a loaner car, the longer warranty period or the Lexus dealer amenities from a Honda dealer.
