As I said above, go drive the BMW 328 4cy turbo - if BMW can make it that smooth, Lexus will likely make it even smoother.

With a turbo it's no problem. When it's NA then yes an I4 is not suitable in a Lexus (IMO ESh, CTh, HSh for another discussion). That said people don't look at the 250 in the right way. Truth is it's like a four cylinder with 4 banger power and displacement and even fuel economy, however Lexus was smart and graced it with two extra cylinders to keep things smooth (unlike a buzzy TSX for example). So the 250 is like a four cylinder and the 350 is well a six. Look at it that way and it makes sense

If Lexus would just add Port Injection like the 350 they wouldn't have these issues. For 2013 they changed a few things but didn't add PI. Reason being they didn't want to have to go through emission tests again

Lexus needs to make their turbo four cylinder fun to drive, regardless of how smooth it is although coming from a straight six I'd expect a similar feel. Toyota sold a handful of turbocharged versions of Lexus cars in Japan and they seemed to be very respectable and smooth.

A turbo changes the feel of a four cylinder for the better. Plenty of technology is available to address NVH today.
