Flaxen only comes in either Matte Black or Linear Dark Brown Wood.
Personally I despise this matte black - looks horribly cheap, and the dark brown wood isn't the greatest looking either. The gorgeous one is the Dark Gray Wood.
Doesn't matter what you get though, as magne pointed out you can buy the trim pieces from Sewell then sell off whatever comes with your car.

Another option taken away from the US market...
As far as I can tell from my brouchure, the EU market can choose whatever wood trim we would like in the luxury package, except for the bamboo wood. Does not matter what color the interior is.
Only the f-sport is limited to have the silver\carbon pattern.

Seems like U.S. always gets skimped!

That's NOT true at all....the US is the No. 1 market for Lexus......they give the widest possible amount of standard items and options. Go to some other countries and you have very little choice. The old days (like the 60's) when you could go to your local Big 3 dealer and tick off any option you wanted....and some of these were very small options like ashtray, cigarette lighter, etc. Well, those days are long gone for every maker.

Here's a good option so you get the car exactly with the options you want. Matte black vinyl wrap the wood. It's inexpensive as a DIY or get it professionally done. For the amount of wood trim in the car (4 door armrests and trim on glovebox), my guesstimate is no more than 1 hr labor and $150 to get this done professionally. Easy mod, easy on the budget, and get the look you want. Then when it's time to sell or trade the car in, just peel it off and buff the wood.

Quick search finds that fully loaded IS250 costs $55,517 in England.

You get 16" wheels standard. Clearly different marketing for different countries.

It may "look" old, but Wood (real wood) has always defined luxury. Lexus has lately been trying to show a more sport appeal and not rest on their luxury and refinement laurels as much. Folks forget that the IS is still a luxury badged car. It is because of that fact that I despise the cheap materials in anything that's less than $50,000 with a so called luxury badge. Lexus isn't the only offender (IS cough ES cough cough), but BMW's 3-Series and the rest of the lot is simply just a slap in the face to consumers who are to blame just as much for rolling over and letting these automakers get away with material downgrades.

For the IS, the wood placement is generally better. The placement on the door switch plate is typical and it looks okay. The only complaint is they put the wood on the glove box lid and scratches on the wood is an issue down the road.

Yeah, wood trim in cars cannot be generalized. There are way too many different kinds of varieties, finishes, mixtures, and composites that are used and in various degrees of execution. There are definitely some cars that have used it better than others,
