MERGED SNOW tire and rims discussion

I'm curious - when putting on a set of winter wheels/tires, do you absolutely need to purchase tire pressure sensors? How would the car react if you just slapped on some wheels like any other car with a TPMS?

Winter Tire Setup Question
Hello,
I have
IS 250 AWD
I was at dealer for oil change and asked for winter tires.
The original setup I wanted so I can save money was:
17 inch normal black steel wheels with 17 inch tires
Since stock tires on the IS is 18 inch, he said that the black steel wheels dont fit on my IS 250.
Is this true..those normal black steel wheels fit only on normal cars like honda, huyndai and so on.
Therefore he said the best thing is to keep my current 18inch rims and just go with 18 inch new winter tires.
Do any of you know if this is true or they are just saying that.
Thanks,

My winter setup includes 17 inch rims on my IS350 with blizzak tires and they fit just fine. I ran them all last winter. He may have been referring to the bolt pattern on the steel rims that wont fit your car. If he wasn't talking about the bolt pattern, then he is plain wrong. 17 in rims will fit on your car whether they're for winter, summer, or any season.

19" 20" inch snow tires?
Hey folks, I am seeking info from anyone who has experience with 19" or 20" inch sonw tires. I live in ontario from nov to april which most of the time covered by sonw. I am think put 19 or 20inch rims on my is350 f sprot, but snow tire for that size is not easy to locate and my friends told me to avoid large size sonw tire as they will not provide expected traction on snow. So I am open to suggestions on weather I should put larger rims run on sonw tire.

Winter tires : 225/40R18 square setup a good idea?
Hi all.
Time for winter tires
I'll be installing them on my stock rims. 225/40R18 seems like the best option for me (square setup) but all tires shop I asked are contradicting each other...
Any opinions?
BTW tires are the Blizzak WS80 because I have an RWD and our snow storms can be quite harsh...

I purchased 225/40/18 winter tires on all four corners and I ran with this set up last winter. It works perfect but be aware that the rear wheels are slightly wider which the edge of the wheel pokes out a bit with no protection and I got a few noticeable rock chips. I plan on swapping my winter tires onto my stocks again this year but I'll need to be extra careful.
