3rd gen engine bay isn't as clean as 2nd gen

It's not just that. I have the second generation but had the third generation as loaner last week and I noticed they cut the cost in many areas. I feel like 2nd gen is better build.

The 2IS is better built and is a Luxury Sport Sedan.
The 3IS has been compromised in many areas, but focuses on handling, making it a Sport Luxury Sedan.
Two completely different things.

Exactly. This all goes back to the very controversial argument here on the forums and mentioned by a few posters:

Sounds like a little bit of weight savings to me. How many luxury car buyers really spend that much time under the hood of their car, car enthusiasts not included? I don't see how it makes that much of a difference to the majority of people who buy the car.

Exactly, we don't want to spend thst much time under the hood. Which is why all luxury cars have plactic coverings.
It also looks more refined. The way it is now looks like a 1998 honda civic engine bay.

Lol, wow, they saved 1 pound. The plastic cover prevents dust buildup and is easier to clean.
