Looks to be that way it kind of sucks that Lexus didn't paint that crossmember bar fully I wonder how it is on the 2IS. definitely something to complain about I wonder if they'll go ahead and paint it ha ha

It appears that way to me. They use isolated flat black paint to cover areas that are exposed or visible. Otherwise not everything under the hood is painted like most cars i've owned. Most likely saves them time and robotic programming, plus it doesn't waste paint when you won't see it anyhow.

What's the point of painting it? If it's sealed and corrosion protected, I don't see the point since you cannot see any of this exposed area with the proper covers in place. I would have never known if I didn't take the pictures as requested. I'm pretty sure that 95%+ of Lexus owners would never know.

I do have to admit I'm a newbie especially to the Lexus brand. Finding out that it's quite normal is A good thing to hear. Since it's the first year of a new generation car I want to make sure that it's not Lexus trying to cut corners on this new car

Well, sorry. I came from an Acura and Infiniti. Never seen this before. The Infiniti has a carbon cover over the front cross member. But its still painted the body color.

At least Lexus covers the areas where they save money on paint application. I owned an Audi that had the same condition around the fenders. When I opened the doors and looked at the edge of the fender edge around the door jam, the paint faded to primer. I first thought the fenders had been replaced, but it was Audi just trying to save money by not finishing areas of the car not visible from the exterior.
I have a Starfire Pearl IS, but this area is covered, so I would relax. The wrong steering wheel is interesting, and must be a build error.

Well it's not just the crossmember. The frame itself near the front isn't painted to match the body either.

Here is a snap of the frame area below the headlights. Not painting the cross member all the way saves them what? $2? LOL

If you wanted a car with the level of detail such that unexposed chassis and crossmember parts are fully painted and finished even though they are unseen...you're in the wrong class of car. Its an IS, not an S Class.
