I understand it's an issue for you that you do not like, and that you'd like to see it changed, but for me, it's not an issue and I would rather just use the displays for directions rather than have my music interrupted, in the event that I do not hear the next command. I would prefer that Lexus leave it as it is.
Same for me as well. I am happy to simply follow the turn-by-turn instructions on my displays, so every time I check my speed (I don't use cruise control) I can also see how far I am from the next turn

Perhaps a setting to enable the adjustment or have no voice prompt if desired would be needed.

Best of both worlds.

Thanks, I guess we can compromise on having a setting for whether the navigation guidance either automatically lower the radio volume or not. There are certainly enough other options we can select from under settings, this can be just one more.

Those of you with another, additional '14 model year Lexus, who wouldn't mind helping, please advise if your radio audio lowers upon navigation guidance on same. Thanks.

Thanks for the update. If willing, please let them know you’re not satisfied with their response and would like a specialist to contact you. If you get no where, I will call the rep I spoke with and ask if I can put you in touch with him.

My 2IS does the same thing along with my 3IS and so did my 3GS, however my 2GS didn't. Personally I like it this way because I don't need to guided every step of the way. It got rather annoying when the volume dropped down and raised back up. Especially during the "Southwest Airlines" like dings.

I honestly believe there was some market research done on the topic of discussion and it was deemed to keep the radio volume stationary during route guidance. I'm sure Lexus knows they were going to ruffle some feathers, but they're confident they won't loose any sales over the navigation volume fluctuation going away.

One more thing, I can almost guarantee if the navigation volume fluctuation was present there would be a post titled "improperly designed navigation volume settings".

You don't need to be guided every step of the way? This shows there's a problem. I'm sure there are people who want to be guided every step of the way, and for those who don't, keep the system on mute.

Not sure if you've been following, but the rep confirmed Lexus and its supplier both thought the system would lower in volume. He then clarified that the system is the way it's always been, but the navigation system has a dedicated speaker now and the perceived lowering of volume has gone away. It’s an oversight that should be fixed.

Sadly, I've read this whole post and I would like 10 mins of my life back but that's not an option.

Let's get a some things straight and here is my point of view.

1. The rep you talked to who stated "Lexus and its supplier both thought the system would lower in volume" only said that to make you feel better and probably wanted to get you off the phone.

2. The navigation in the 3IS doesn't have a dedicated speaker. It uses the the front speakers.

3. This isn't an oversight or a mistake which needs to be fixed. The system in the 3IS IS designed that way. Furthermore, it has been that way going back to my 2006 GS 430 possibly longer.

4. The volume for the radio/source not reducing is not a safety issue. The safety issue is when someone is rocking out to Abba or Michael Buble and can't hear or see the navigation guidance led alone the exterior traffic.

5. The navigation tells you well in advance of an upcoming turn. If you're rocking out to the mentioned artists above and don't hear the guidance you have the option start paying attention, lower the volume for ABBA and replay the guidance.

I honestly hope Lexus adds a setting in the menu for the radio/source volume to be reduced during navigation guidance. Not for my sake but for all that aren't paying attention and can't notice the voice guidance 2 miles before the exit. I don't want to be on the same road as someone who beelines from the #1 lane because they're about to miss their exit due to not being attentive while driving.

If you feel this is a safety issue, then like I said in another post. Sell the car and don't look back. Driving should be you're number 1 priority, not rocking out to Michael Buble.

Sorry you’d like 10 minutes of your life back; not sure why you spent more of it trying to ‘get things straight’. Hope you don’t spend even more reviewing the below.

The rep I’ve been in contact with is not with customer service, but a tech manager at HQ, and based on our conversations, he deals with marketing, engineering, suppliers and legal.

When we first spoke, we went over my concerns, he followed-up upon researching same the second time we spoke, the third time was a second follow-up and I spoke with him again today after seeing your post. You assume a lot, but he has not tried to ‘get me off the phone’ at any point.

When speaking today, I said I thought he said there’s a dedicated speaker for the nav system, but that others state there’s not. He said I may have misunderstood him, as it’s not that there’s a dedicated speaker just for the nav system, but only one speaker is used for same. He went on to clarify that the system is designed the same way it has always been, where the one speaker used for nav temporarily cuts out audio and broadcasts voice guidance, but that the difference here is that the driver’s door speaker was used previously and the center speaker is now being used, which has caused a perceived difference that the audio no longer automatically lowers in volume, as the center speaker is further away from and not facing the driver. I said I’m very particular and don’t notice an audio decrease at all, as based on his description same should still decrease, however slightly, and that I’d have to get back to him.

In all, you need not patronize me with nonsense as to where my attention should be or whether or not I should change cars. This is a problem / concern / safety issue / comfort issue / however you want to term it, and you contradict yourself in stating it's not a safety issue, but go on to describe a potentially dangerous situation. Strange.

And almost forgot, he said this site is specific to reporting concerns with our navgiation systems, albeit the previously mentioned site is fine as well:

I understand the concern, and appreciate the interest in looking for a solution, it seems many of the problems he addresses are simply being addressed as i thought they would.
Yes Lexus is listening, but i am 100% confident little will be done to correct any of them.
we can hope the navigation slowness problems can be fixed with a new firmware release but complaining about the navigation volume is more of annoyance than a design flaw. clearly Lexus programmed it that way.
I've owned at least 12 new cars in the past 17 years or so. starting in 2001 i bought my first vehicle with in car navigation it was a 2001 Acura TL.
since that time Honda/Acura has held the first place trophy for ease of use and voice controlled navigation systems, ability to program them while driving etc.
Lexus /Toyota on the other hand has taken nearly the same time to figure out how much consumers absolutely hated their nav systems. In fact I went back to Acura in 2012 for a TL just to get away from the Lexus nav system. (i found the car rather uninspiring honestly)
i think Lexus has improved it a lot over the past few years and the addition of e destination and bing has made it much better and easier to use while driving.
however I think it is clear that the wheels of change turn very slowly with Lexus in this area.
with that, I am confident all of the discussions will fall on deaf ears with regard to this issue with corporate. it is a little like congress, while so many thing in our government are a mess, the powers that be want them that way or they would simply change things. they also cannot agree on anything and the rest of us suffer. some are happy with the way this country is run and others are not.

I think 1 call and 1 email is more than plenty to make them aware of the problem.

Lexus has already made likely tens of thousands of cars for MY 2014 they have already spent millions with vendors to manufacture parts for this car. they are simply not going to throw those parts away and make new ones at least for this model year. in 2015 maybe, but like it or not the 2014 IS is exactly how it will continue to be for the remainder of this first year run.

with that said, I see it this way.. if you don't like the car, sell it and get something you do like, or at least doesn't **** you off so bad! buy the next model year after all the bugs are ironed out.

on a side note, I've been looking at the small nav screen, I can't help but think in the next coming years that dead space will get filled with something larger! i am guessing they will get a faster processor in the nav as well. my 2013 GS with the 12" wide screen doesn't have any of the issues mentioned except the nav volume issue. if i have 1 gripe it is that when talking on the phone the nav won't shut the hell up when i am talking and i have no way to stop it without going into another menu to lower the volume or kill the guidance altogether. that to me is a WAY bigger gripe than the radio volume lowering. I've found that the seeing i use now works great in the GS and when my IS comes i think ill set it to the same level.
easy enough to look and see what the nav is telling you on 1 of 2 screens in the IS! or turn the volume down, so simple, the **** is right there! if there was a nav volume + or - button(s) that would be an easy fix as well

I've removed several comments where the topic inappropriately changed to personal commentary about the other members posting in this thread instead of discussing the navigation system concern and potential solutions.

Let's get this back on topic please. If another members comments bother you then use the ignore list

Now that time has passed since last discussed, anyone speak with your dealers and/or corporate regarding this yet? If so, any updates? Thanks!
