see how theres this extra lip on the tire bead that sticks out further than the wheel lip. Not all tires have this though

That is a nice tire feature. Speaking from experience, that rib only helps when there is a minor brush/contact with the curb. But some protection is better than nothing.

Thanks for the picture! Are there tires with rub ribs that we could buy for the 3IS?

the stock ER33 turanzas had them, but they are a junk tire. Honestly I dont know if theres a list that tells you which tires have the protector.

Very cool. Thanks for the picture. I've seen tires like these and they don't look bad at all! Don't believe it's a new concept. Not sure how much they help, but any amount is better than nothing! Somewhat necessary now that so many rims lack the lip they once had...

This tire has the extra lip and at a very slow roll this happen to my is-F. IMO there is no value in this type of tire.

i agree, but i think the biggest problem with the design is that Lexus tends to put too narrow of tires on too wide of a rim. the rubber lip is supposed to wrap around the edge of the rim but instead sticks out like that..
i think the tire manufacturers idea was to have that lip wrap around the wheel so it can pinch the rubber between the rim and the curb.

To the OP:
Any chance you can get the paint code your guy used to fix your wheel? I would like to fix a small scratch on one of my wheels (2014 Lexus IS 350 F sport) and the Toyota phantom grey suggested by someone on this thread is not a good match (I tried it, it is darker).

Thank you in advance for any info you may provide.

Toyota Phantom Grey Pearl is a perfect match imo, I tried it on my rim and I can barely see where it is so not sure why it's not working for you.

I am not sure what to tell you... I saw your recommendation, bought the paint, applied it to the scratch carefully and it was visibly darker than the paint on the wheel, so I wiped it off. Maybe the factory paint is somewhat lighter on my wheels as compared to yours?
