Default USB port charges phones very slowly or not at all

Have a 2014 IS250. I'm new to the forum's so hoping I'm posting this right.

I plugged a USB cable into the USB port in the car and attempted to charge my Samsung Galaxy S4. It barely charges sometimes, and other times when I'm using Pandora etc, it doesn't charge at all and my battery level actually falls.

Anybody know how this can be corrected? Is the power draw out of the USB port extremely low?

If I use a standard DC Plug with a USB cable, it charges just fine.

Thanks!

Have noticed same with my iPhone 5; charges, but slowly.

Hope it isn't damaging my phone's battery!

The USB port does not have a high amp rate. It charges very slowly, especially with samsung phones. I usually pair my phone via Bluetooth and charge through the cig lighter and leave a dedicated iPod in the USB.

What a shame. They either cheaped out or messed up on something so small but creates a large annoyance.

I have the Samsung Note 3. The USB port does charge it, but very slowly.

This happens in my gfs Ford as well, seems like its mainly to sync ipods and such so we just use regular car chargers instead.

I would think it wouldn't be too hard to switch them out with a USB 3.0 port. I'll give it a shot when I get my IS this week
