How to change map mode in nav screen?

Default How to change map mode in nav screen?
I was playing with the nav system today. I can see all the different map modes, but only the top three icons are highlighted which I can choose, while the others such as 'intersection' and 'turn by turn' mode icons are not selectable. Anyone knows how I can switch to those modes?

When the navigation is set and the vehicle is in motion ( I know right)

Thank you. That makes a lot sense since I was playing with the nav in my garage. I did set a destination but the car was stationary lol
