Speaking of the cup holders I hate the placement of them. When I first drove the car the first thing I noticed was how oddly they're placed. I thought I would get over it but it still bugs me.

Absolutely agree about the placementMaybe would be easier to use if I was left handed.
I dont allow anything but bottled water in my car. So the cupholders works fine for me. :-)

We use a different vehicle for road trips.
Same here, and fast food drive throughs are out of the question. If a meal is going to be had it will be had outside of the vehicle. I do take coffee to work in the mornings; however, I drink it black so no cream or sugar to make a nasty mess with and I don't fill the cup anywhere near the top.

20oz Styrofoam cups from any grocery store. Don't fill the cup above 2inches below the rim or the liquids can slosh out. The cups fit snugly in the cup holder preventing any cup movement, with enough girth standing above the console to securely grab with your hand. I just hold the cup in my hand if I know I'm fixing to take a quick turn or go over anything bumpy if the cup is closer to full. If you want to be environmental about it, wash and reuse the cups until they no longer hold coffee. I keep a towel in the back floor area just in case.
The only thing I ever have in my cupholders is travel mugs of coffee, so they work fine for that. What I do hate about them is their placement and how when my husband is in the passenger seat he can't use the arm rest because it's literally just cupholders.
newer arm rest design is better in the RC, with the touchpad moved you dont hit your cups while youre using it. And it has those grip claw things for the cups.

The cup holders do suck but they don't suck more than the ONE cup holder in the 2IS. I guess coming from the 2IS it's a bit of an upgrade for me. The placement is still obnoxious tho.
Such a basic thing can impact us so much. Haha.. I don't like the placement of the cupholder either. I have no problem so far with the fit, but it's difficult to reach for the drink while driving. My 8 year old Honda Accord had much better design and plenty of them throughout the car. I haven't complained till now, because my last car was even worse. It had very shallow cup holders that had uneven bottoms (tilted bottles were a nightmare.......)
