2015 vs. 2014 Radio / Navigation Sytem Speed
#4
Hi Trish and Wednesday, glad to hear things are going well for both of you.
In light of that, would you mind sharing what nav version you guys are running? It would be very interesting to see if there are any hardware/software revisions going into the new cars, particularly the 2015.
To check, there's a little messing around involved:
1. Cycle Ignition to ACC - The Lexus Emblem displays on screen.
2. Wait for the display to switch to the caution screen, and select continue.
3. Cycle the headlight switch On/Off 3 times while holding down MENU.
4. Select service information.
5. Select version information.
6. Select EMV-M.
Thanks!

Thanks for starting this thread. I was one of the users that noticed a big difference in the overall speed of the menu's in the original topic where this was brought up by a few of us (https://www.clublexus.com/forums/is-...-2015-3is.html).
It would be great to hear some responses from 2014 owners - if they could compare their navigation performance to the youtube videos in the link above & write some details.
All that I remember is that on two different accounts (more than 8 months apart) at different dealerships, I had an opportunity to test drive a 2014 IS350 (F-Sport and non-Sport). All the 2014 models that I test drove, their nav units lagged a lot in comparison to IS350 models in those videos of the 2015 model. There definitely is something way different - it has to be a hardware change for 2015. I think Lexus figured out what was causing all the issues with the navigation units people were having in the 2014 models.
I've been keenly following issues related to navigation lag & constant reboots, because I find this totally unsatisfactory in a brand new car. I refuse to buy a Lexus IS350 until it has been addressed and it looks like it has been in the 2015. Really, I'll be waiting to see reports from the 2015 models to see if people have these sorts of problems continue for them.
If you do your homework on the issue, you'll notice that the user "Pralix" somehow got Lexus to do a hardware & software change to his 2014 model that fixed this problem. Read his posts in the "NAVIGATION SLOWNESS- Resolved" topic: https://www.clublexus.com/forums/is-...ml#post8588353
By the way, the title of that thread is a bit misleading because I don't believe the navigation slowness was every completely "resolved" for the 2014 model year.
Hope this helps,

Can you please link to the post/topic where such a "navigation-fix" TSB is referenced?
Thank you,

There was a TSB a few months ago for updating FW but not for replacing the whole unit.

I'm wondering if the V15 prefix indicates a hardware upgrade instead of software. I really hope it's not hardware, though....

Thanks for the info, Wednesday. I've only ever seen the V10 prefix for ProgramVer (like V10A8500), never the V15 prefix. The suffix, 8750, is also higher than 8710, which is the highest I've seen available in one of the other threads (https://www.clublexus.com/forums/is-...this-time.html).

Oh, that's okay; the designations are always in the same order, so it's all good. The most important one is really the first one, ProgramVer, which you've included as V15D8750. Thanks again.

You're welcome! My nav runs very smoothly, my 2011 was awful, half the time the rear camera would not come on and trying to move around on the map always occurred with a lag, none of that with my new car. Maybe the 14's will get the update.
