I installed mine two weeks ago, I used the mirror tap cord (micro size, 1 foot). You don't need to take off the mirror, only slide the mirror cover down so it exposes the power harness.
Do I have to cut the wires from the connector? I tried squeezing in the black and red wires from the mirror tap into the female end where the blue + and purple ground wires are connected, but wasn't able to get them in there.

No cutting is required. That's the whole point of using the mirror tap. You need to try each of the 4 sides of the hole until it fits. It took me a good 10 mins trying to nudge it in.
After almost messing up some wiring, I came to the conclusion that the mirror tap I received is most definitely not the right size. I guess I'll just be buying the one from blendmount.

Did you get the Micro size? It seems like a tight fit however you need to try all four "sides", above the wire, left of the wire, right, and below of the wire.
I just did mine by tapping into the radio fuse but it keeps it on at all times, even when the car is off and locked. Has anyone had this issue? Not sure which other fuse to try...
i'm with you iddi0tt I tried to use an add a fuse type of tap and i tried multiple fuses the radio, the a/c, the dome lights all seemed to be constantly on...

Did you try pulling power from the mirror. It's really easy. Esp with a mirror tap wire.
