Default Dealer just emailed me about the Remote Start for 2014

I have a 2014

Was just emailed this:

We are now able to install the remote starters in the new IS models. The first one was put in a stock unit last week and it went well, so we can now start installing them in Guest’s vehicles.

I am confirming if this is a Lexus accessory or an aftermarket unit and will update this post.

Did he confirm that the IS they installed it in last week was a '14 model with navigation?

Would be great but in the new IS sounds like the 2015s. I got the Lexus mailer and it said only 2015 ISs.

Was it Lexus of Edmonton or South Pointe? Was it a two-way?

They replied today, it's an ASTRO start. Nothing OEM/Accessory. I was promised a 2-way, so this should be a 2-way - Lexus of Edmonton.

Seriously, my parents Nissan Altima has a factory remote start built into the FOB. I had a Chevy Malibu rental in 2008 with the same thing. Not the dealers fault on this though.

Yeah my dads Cadi has OEM RES. I'm chapped ours didn't come with it.

I wonder if Viper will come out with an RES for our cars.

Oh nice, just checked the AstroStart site, and they have Smart Phone access as well. Is that what you will be getting?

I hope so, but I doubt it. When I was negotiating the car, they told me they install 2-way RES in house and they would throw on in (they said they normally charge 1K for it).

There might be a couple more details if I dig out of the bill of sale, but I'm guessing it's a mid-range unit.

I'd pull out the bill of sale and make sure they don't forget anything that was agreed upon.

Just had it installed. Astro Start RSS-5225.

Does the job, though it shuts off when you open the door. My OEM Acura starter for this, but I hate it, so I'm going through the manual trying to figure out if I can change this.

You cant change it, it is a security feature.

I had the Compustar with Drone in my 14 IS250 at least a month before Lexus announced having the ability to add a remote starter.

The Drone is great...no external antenna, no limit on range, GPS tracking capable - which qualifies for a discount on most insurances, and a host of other features.

The biggest complaint i've heard with that was that were was no status screen on the app, so you don't know whether your car is running or not. Can you confirm this?

Really? I've had about 5-6 aftermarket units on various cars and I've never had one that turned off when you opened the door.

It actually makes zero sense safety/security wise, even though they like to pretend that is the reason. It's annoying and I wish I could override this.

Why? I wouldn't want anyone to be able to break in and drive off w/o the key present.
