Hey! Would +40 offset look okay? I plan on getting a square setup with 18x8.5 +40 -- with 225/40 R18 tires. would that work without rubbing or looking stupid?
Hey All! I have been scrolling and scrolling to try and find something similar to what i wanna get. Im on stock suspension & want to get an 18" square setup. I found some wheels i really like that are 18x8.5 +40mm offset. Would this work all around without any issues? Im assuming id run 225/40 18 tires on those rims? Does everything look good to you guys? Any help would be really appreciated, hope its okay to ask here!!

He's running 18x8.5 +40. But he's running the stock 18" tire size: 255/35. The 225 you're considering might be too much of an unsafe stretch.

With that size rim you should consider the 255/35/18 as mentioned above.
With the offset on the higher side, it's important to note if the front rims will clear the brake calipers...assuming you have a 300,350,200T.
By the numbers it should be fine, but spoke design is something that can't be accounted for in the specs.

Yes i have a 2016 IS 300 Base model with stock brakes. Whoismike said i could also run 245/35 tires, do you think those would be better than 255/35? Its not much of a difference but id prefer 245 since its not as wide. Do you know if 245 or 255 is more available? I will be driving in mild winter around town with the wheels and tires so id assume 245 would cut through snow a little easier as well

The stock wheel diameter for an IS is 25 inches. A 225/40/18 is 25.1 inches...a 255/35/18 is 25 inches...however, 245/35/18 is 24.75 inches. Ok, so really it's not the end of the world, but you're actually shrinking the tire.
If you want a narrow fit, then I suggest going in the other direction and use a 235/40/18. The diameter is 25.4 inches, but at least you are not shrinking the tire, and the ride will be much smoother.

Im trying to go for a simple squared, close to OEM look, just with balck rims that are 18x8.5 +40. Do you know if that 235/40 is a fairly common size? I want to be able to slap on some winter tires for mild winters around town, and i know some size tires aren't always offered on winter tires. Thanks again for your help!

235/40/18 is a common size available in All-Season, Performance, and Winter tires...so you shouldn't have an issue finding something that suites your needs and budget.
As for a rim, it's really a personal choice as to what you like. There are so many rims out there, and 18x8.5 +40 or even +35 is a fairly popular size, so you will have several to choose from.
Not to mention the wide array of cost...it also comes down to what your budget is for the rims and tires.

For a drop in spacer up to 5mm there's no real negatives if you get a quality product.
I would suggest a spacer that have the specific bolt pattern to the car (5x114.3 or 5x4.5) and a center bore that matches the hub size, 60.1mm.
It could also have a snout on the hub to accommodate a hub ring for the new rims as likely the center bore on the new rims will be bigger than the hub on the car.
For what they cost I even had a pair of spacers custom made for my car when I had the 20's.
Effectively it drops the offset from +40 to +35 with the 5mm spacer.

Thankyou! Do you know of a good place i could order quality spacers and hubs with snouts? So i know what you mean for the specific bolt pattern on the spacers, but im not entirely sure what id need for the hubs with snouts, would i look for a 60.1mm hub that has a snout attached to it, is that right? I will PM you the wheels i wanna get!
Anyone familiar with this company and their offerings? Does this seem legit? They claim to sell OEM wheels. Fine print suggests a buyer would have to specify via email or phone call if they wanted OEM otherwise the buyer could get replicas, etc.
Clearly, they're using stock photos of OEM wheels. Again, I'm just curious if any users here have dealt with them.
