Default Dealer puts nitrogen in our tires?

hey guys so i was speaking to my uncle the other day, said he went in for this 10k mile service and the dealer recommended putting nitrogen into the tires instead of normal air. they claimed better handling, longer tire life and better mpg. He raved about the ride quality being substantially better with especially since he has the low profile rims as well. I am considering doing this as well for my fsport, it sounds like a good deal? anyone here can input on this or have had the dealer do this?
thanks for the advice!

Atmospheric oxygen is already 80% nitrogen. So I guess normal tires should be somewhat near substantially better? Lol.

The purpose of putting nitrogen in the tires is because nitrogen does not expend as much to heat as oxygen.
Therefore you can keep your tire pressure steady otherwise it will rise by a few PSI.
It won't give you what they claim.
You can use normal oxygen in your tires by putting a few PSI less.
But if it's free then why not.

It's amazing people are still falling for this. A little research will reveal very little to any benefit by putting "pure" nitrogen in your family auto tires. As was mentioned, normal air has around 78% nitrogen already - you gain very little more because the best they can do with the service the OP is talking about is 90-95%.

Nitrogen does hold pressure a bit longer but just not worth the hassle or expense if paying for it.

I completely agree. If anyone still buys into the nitrogen thing then they would probably also believe that putting helium in the tires gives your car the ability to fly.

I had nitrogen put in because they did it for free. Otherwise I wouldn't pay for it.

Yeah - been thinking about that myself for a smoother, floating feel on the rougher roads - haha

I totally get that and I wasn't slamming you personally, I'm sorry if it came across that way. Eventually, you will need to top off your tires especially this time of year with the temps dropping so you will wind up "diluting" the nitrogen with plain old air. Of course you could purchase a tank of nitrogen but as was mentioned above it's probably not worth the hassle or expense.

Fyi - this isn't an add on. The car came this way. At least my is350 f sport did. You can tell by the tire stem. If it's green capped that is the sign nitrogen is used vs normal air

I prefer nothing but methane in my tires, sure my car might explode but I'll get an extra 1-2mpg :P

I thought the green cap was a sign that you got your tires from Costco lol, I know they use nitrogen but have always hated the green cap. I've got my Camry car tires replaced at America's tire company and they didn't switch out the green caps that I got from Costco previously, and I don't believe America's tire company uses nitrogen.

Paying for something you can get free such as air is dope moment. As many have said here, unless it is complimentary, skip the nitro fill. Not that I don't trust dealerships/repair shops, but who's to say they really are using nitrogen? We've heard other stories about the oil not being changed during an oil change, air filters not being changed. Just saying!

It's free in many tire shops here. when I had my 2IS I didn't believe in it but now it's holding stable pressure in my 3IS, it's worth it.
