Go to your car. Look on the driver side placard it will tell you the proper inflation...

Open the driver's side door and have a look at the decal on the door jam. That will tell you the proper COLD tire pressure for your car. Make sure you take the readings and adjust the pressure when the tires are cold. Get yourself a small compressor so you can take care of this at home. I purchased this one at home depot that works on 120V so I don't have to worry about starting the car and dealing with potentially deadly fumes inside my garage. It was their own Husky brand and I believe it was around $30.00.

should be 36 cold pressure.

however, depending on ambient temperature, it may be higher or lower.

What it says in your door frame. You'd think they put it there for a reason....

I set my pressure when my car is in my garage, thus I adjust for ambient temperature, based on the time of year and average temps for that season. After all, I drive the car outside, not inside.

It's usually around 70 in my garage. So now, I set my tires to 38, cold. Assuming it's 50 degrees outside that yeilds the proper outdoor cold PSI of 36.

In the summer, I set the tires to 34 or so. If I park the car outside and come back in a few hours, the tires will be at 36.

Reason being, PSI goes up or down for every 10 degree change in air temp.

When I took delivery of the car, the tires were actually a bit low - around 33 or so. After driving like this for a few weeks, I bumped it up to 36 and was surprised how much better the car handled for such a minimal change. Sure, the city streets feel a bit rougher, but the car feels more connected, responsive, nimble and lighter.

^ or you can have it filled with nitrogen and don't have to worry about fluctuating temps since nitrogen is more stable . not the cheapest option of course.

Related question : Should the psi be the same for 17", 18", 19" & 20" ?
( So far, have not seen a 21" on the 3IS, would love to see one though )
