Default What did you do to your IS2/3 Today?

Always a favorite thread of mine on other models, Lexus or not.

If I've missed an earlier thread please feel free to combine/delete this.

Today I changed the oil on my (new to me 26k 2015 IS250 AWD). The selling dealer (not a Lexus dealer) claimed to have changed the oil and filter, but one look at the brown oil on dipstick you knew they hadn't done it.

Simple task, a couple of small glitches for those who haven't done this on their car yet.

You always learn a bit when you start doing your own maintenance on a new car to your stable.

Thanks to the member who did a nice writeup with pictures on his IS350 RWD. Helpful and informative.

Some details I learned or found helpful about this job on this car:

Only need to jack one side of car to get enough clearance to perform an oil change, simply jacked on the inner frame rail and slid a jack stand in. Using the jack stand and the jack in position for backup safety was sufficient.
The Oil pan is the pan in front of the car, it has a number of bolts around it. Sounds simple, but there is a second pan behind it for the transmission and the front drive shafts are right next to engine oil pan on the AWD version. Looking at the drive shafts attached right next to the engine oil pan is slightly off-putting and makes you question yourself if you haven't encountered this before.
The last person who tightened the oil filter assembly (which must be removed with special Toyota tool/wrench) must have been Paul Bunyan, as I had to get a breaker bar to bust it loose. Didn't dig that.

Other than that, very straightforward.

Used factory Toyota filter kit, 6.5q of Mobile1 0-20 oil, new blue washer for oil pan bolt.

If the future this will be very easy and take much less time as the learning curve is behind me!

Installed a Blackvue DR750S-2CH dashcam system with a Power Magic Pro under the dash. Install was clean and went smooth as pie. The only hiccup was that system wouldn't initially power up. Turns out I left the interior lights and accessories on long enough that the battery drained below 12v, where the Power Magic Pro then did its job and shut down the system. Just had to drive the car around long enough to charge up the battery and all is good!

Programmed a new key fob at home for the IS250.

Virgin keyfob from eBay and cable/Techstream kit, plus a little YouTube and great satisfaction at avoiding the stealership.

I'm afraid to even inquire what they would have charged for the entire setup.

Will get the physical key cut soon at locksmith, but never use it anyway...
