Help! Should I buy this used IS250?
Hello everybody,
I am about ready to pull the trigger on a 2012 IS250 with 21,000 miles and wanted some input from the clubLexus members. I know that this is the 3-IS forum but responses are a bit slow on the 2-IS forum; plus this is more of a general Lexus question.
The looked clean and drove fine when I went to see it, and it's CARFAX report is clean. However, as we all know, CARFAX cannot always completely be trusted. The car only has 15 months of original manufacturer's warranty on it.
On the one hand, I know that Toyota/Lexus make solid cars that are very reliable. However, I am also scared to get a lemon. Again, the car only has 21,000 miles and according to CARFAX it is good and has had all routine maintenance performed. Should i go for it?
The car is being sold by an Infiniti dealer. Please respond quickly as I am headed to the dealership within the next hour....

Why are you going there if you're not sure???
IS250's are a dime a dozen, I would recommend going to a Lexus dealer and getting a certified pre-owned one and you'll get a 7 year 100,000 mile warranty....

Just having some last-minute doubts since it's my first time purchasing a used car.
The CPOed Lexus' will give that reassurance but they are charging at least $2,500 more for the same exact car.

Then it is a $2500 gamble. Is it worth $2500 for the peace of mine of CPO or "roll the dice" on the used one from the dealer? BTW, you should be able to purchase a 3rd party warranty for $1000-1500.

I would roll the dice on an even older is350 , if you are on a budget. Like you said, these cars are bullet proof. I'd just make sure that the maintenance was done and the vehicle was taken care of.
I'm not a fan of the 2is 250 at all. I'd personally rather drive the Acura tsx, or infiniti g35/37 .

Anyhow, I went ahead and got the car. I'm a BMW guy through and through but wanted something simple and reliable for the next 6-8 years so the IS250 fit the bill. Already have a 300 hp Bimmer so I didn't need to get the IS350. I think the 3-IS is world's better than the 2-IS but I wasn't willing to spend that kind of money right now.

I can see where you're coming from, I actually passed on a loaded, low-mileage CPO G37x which was actually a grand less than the IS250. It definitely had it's pros as it was larger, more powerful, and more fun to drive. But I already had a G35 back in the day and always wanted to own a Lexus.

Don't let it bother you - just like other sites there are some who can't resist taking a jab. For the most part there are great folks here ready and willing to provide help and advice when requested.
Congrats on the new ride!

Bimmerpost is no better when it comes to being a "tough crowd". Do you know what's the difference between a porcupine and a BMW. On the porcupine, the ****** are on the outside.
