if you have an iphone, it's a nogo. if you have an android, you should've got a brief when you bought your car from the lexus tech. if not, it's in your manual

And just to add to the above response......... if you have a windows phone 8.1, the texts will not show on the nav screen, but they will be read out loud to you thru the stereo by Cortana. You can also respond to the text by voice and create / send new texts by voice too. (I think iPhone has a similar function by siri)

I have a 2014 and receive texts with an iPhone. If you are moving, it's reads it out loud. If you are stopped, you can read it. Make sure "show notifications" is selected.

I have Australian Spec F Sport and Galaxy S6 Edge. Once the phone is connected via Bluetooth if a SMS comes through, a notification comes on the NAV screen indicating to either "Read" or "Ignore" the SMS.

Whist driving this feature used to get disabled however the system still states a SMS has arrived but you can't read it or make the SMS be read out.

To combat this I purchased a by-pass module which now both reads out the SMS plus it also gives you a chance to read it for yourself.

In terms of configuration to get the SMS to show up on the screen, nothing was required. It simply worked.

Be careful. Make sure you don't mind that passengers may be able to see the texts/emails and/or who they are from.
I had an interesting situation where some very suggestive spam came in while I was driving with some co-workers in the car...

I have a Galaxy S5 and the 1st time I got a text message while driving the car I was surprised! After the 2nd day of owning the car, I figured there's a pop-up on the screen that says "read" or "display". I chose the read option and it read the text out loud! I really don't know how it's set-up, but I'll look into it tomorrow in the owner's manual

On your iPhone go into settings>
select bluetooth>
under my devices all devices that you have linked to your phone should be listed>
select the "i" next to Lexus IS> make sure show notifications is on

In your car go to menu>
Phone>
Messaging settings>
make sure the different messaging settings are "on"

I have a Samsung Galaxy s5 and a 2015 3IS and still cannot get it to work properly. This has been the only disappointing part of owning this car. Any suggestions?

I have iPhone and 2015 IS 350 F Sport (w/ navi). I have no problem on that. Make sure you enable "show notifications" under bluetooth setting. However, it can't display language other than english.
