Default Deep Scratch

So i saw this scratch on my car the other day, not sure how this happened. Im hoping its not caused by someone intentionally scratching the car, but this looks really bad! It is scratched all the way down to the metal.....anyway, is this something i would need to take to a shop to fix or should i get some touch up paint and try to "fix".
Anyone have any similar situation like this and how was it fixed? This is by the passenger side rear quarter panel by the way.
If i don't do anything about it, i think rust could form on the exposed metal, perhaps?

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

That's looks more like a rock chip, probably kicked up by another car. Pretty inevitable unless you wrap it in paint protection film all over but that can cost 10 to 20% the price of the car. I've had good luck in the past using factory touch up paint ( use a toothpick to apply sparingly) to cover the metal with a few coats and let it dry. Follow with duplicolor clear you can get at autozone, etc.

Had the same thing happen to mine right above the front windshield. touch-up paint did the trick.

Will touch up paint really work? I got a deep scratch to the point where I saw the clear coat just dangling from the door... I am sure it was because someone decided to swing open their door wide open & didn't give one ***** about other people's properties.... I was hoping touch up paint would help after maybe a little sanding?

I've used Dr. Color Chip to cover rock chips on my Camaro and it works really well. The paint matches perfectly and it's a pretty good repair. It will look good from a distance but when you get up close you'll be able tell there was a scratch. It was worth the $50 as opposed to getting the the entire front end painted and blended.
