Am i getting all bent out of shape for no reason?
Long story short i didnt have time to carry my car for its 20k oil change at lexus. So i took it to a local reputable shop. They used mobil 1 synthetic which im fine with. But my problem is the oil filter they used is called carquest? Ive never heard of that before and now im all pissed about it because i have a crappy oil filter in my car. I never cheap out like this but had to get it done. Simply didnt have time to drive to lexus. Is that brand good? I googled it but nothing really. Should i just buy a lexus filter and have them put that in instead? I would also have to put back some oil if i change the filter right?
Thanks

Carquest is a national car part chain. The filter is made by Wix. There is nothing wrong with it. It filters oil the same way as an OEM filter. Your car will dump oil if you change just the filter. I would just use it and change it out for a Lexus OEM filter next time around.

Yes you are. Just give them a call and make sure they gave you a filter that will last 10kmiles to the next recommended oil change. See if it's a synthetic oil filter. If it is then keep it and forget about it.

There is a big difference in the materials that filters are made out of. Using a paper filter with Mobil 1 is a waste. You need a matching Mobil 1 oil filter to be able to keep the extended oil change intervals. I always make sure I either bring my own filter or see them pull a Mobil 1 filter from the shelf. If they have the Mobil 1 oil, they will have the filter.
Did you see them pour the qt bottles of Mobil 1 in? Mobil 1 is very rarely sold in bulk, so if they pumped it in, it was most likely not Mobil 1. If they when cheap on the filter, they may have gone cheap on the oil.

Shivad87, you own or lease? Never mind, you're good and your car will be fine. If you are really worried about the filter, get the oil changed again at 5k miles for peace of mind. Happy motoring.

Just keep an eye on the color of your oil after 3kmiles. If it gotten blacker than expected change it at 4-5k miles. Your oil might last 8-10k or more but you need an oil filter to keep up with that.

Pole Position
Since Rank (Fram / Champion, not exactly "high end" companies) makes the Mobil 1 filters I doubt they are significantly different than any other filter designed to meet OEM specs. Carquest specifically calls out all of their filters (even the "standard" ones) as meeting manufacturer's new car warranty requirements.
