Default IS250 F Sport Moon roof Rattle?

Has anyone else had a problem with their moon roof rattling? Drives me nuts!

Does it only rattle when it's open? Mine's fine when closed but rattles when it's open. (should of added this to my list of noises that I posted in another thread).

Mine only rattles when it's closed. The rubber side covers... do you mean the accordion looking things?

yeah, the folded rubber strips that acts like a dressing for the metal rails.

or it could be your pull over shade. if it is,check out this thread on the GS forum

Great info! I'll double check the strips. Thought I had already checked those.

I can hear the rattle with the shade open, but it's more muffled when the shade is closed. Is that the same problem those guys were fixing? The fact that the rattle is more muffled with the shade closed led me to believe the problem was somewhere between the shade and the glass rather than the shade itself.

hey not sure if you got this fixed already, but my MY2014's sunroof was rattling too and the noise would go away if i crack open the sunroof. You're right the sound is more muffled when the shade is closed. Long story short, after a few trips to the service center they found out that its the sunroof's weatherstripping...it expands over time from the sun. It was replaced through warranty and ever since then the noise is completely gone! so have them check that...

I took mine in for 30K mile service last week. Told them about the problem and they fixed it!

I had this issue with my IS350 but seems to be only in the summer. I think the heat makes the rubber expand so it rattles. In the winters I hear nothing, so my assumption is the cold makes the rubber contract making the seal tighter.

yeah... mine was pretty frequent that I would only drive my car once a week! Hopefully the new weather stripping can withstand the summer heat this year.

My 14 had rubber trim falling off the moonroof. take it in to the dealer ASAP. they have a redesigned part that they will replace for you free of charge. I never use my moonroof so i'm glad i found the problem when i'm still under warranty.

Isn't that the opposite? If the rubber expands, you get a tighter seal. Haha

Not to necrobump but to save anyone who orders the weatherstrip gasket for this problem, do not order 63251-53061 if you have a 2014 IS350. Even though it's listed as the correct gasket on the Lexus parts websites it's too big and I ended up having to put my old gasket back on.

Was just at the dealer yesterday FINALLY to confirm some part numbers on this moonroof weather strip so I can get this resolved. Mines been rattling for months I hate it.

I wont be ordering the part through the dealer ($88), at least not at first, but here are the part numbers I've found.

Lexus: 63251-53061
Told me this was for the 14 IS350

Lexus said that PN 63251-30100 was for the GS, and Toyota said that same PN was for Camry. I would imagine it works for the IS but perhaps not.

Two Lexus parts sites state that 63251-53060 is replaced by 63251-53061. However they don't seem to offer the one ending in 61... So I'll be purchasing 53060 in hopes it's not too large as previously mentioned.

Ordering this week and if I have issues next weekend I'll try the "GS" weather strip or order straight from lex dealer so I can blame them 😀
