Lexus Windshield - Sand Blasted & Pitted
This topic may have been discussed before, but I could only find threads on older gen IS.
For our 3GEN IS, how are your OEM windshields doing?
I have 12k obo, and my windshield under certain sun light looks sand blasted with "scratches" and tiny white specks.
There are about 5-6 visible "pits" or "chips" on the windshield as well. You can feel the pit, but its not cracking or developing spider legs. Wondering if these will be an issue in the future, I had some of these "pits" since the car was at 3k obo, and it didn't get any worse.
Should I care to get it fix? is it even fixable?

I bought my 2014 IS used about 10 months ago and I noticed this same thing. Mine doesn't have the "pits", but I see the tiny specks. I was thinking it could be from improper washing. The paint on mine looked like the previous owner ran it through some automated car washes so I assumed the specs on the window were from that as well.

I'm 90% sure mine is from HWY driving. (I do alot of commutes with hwys). I do sometimes hear rocks hitting my windshield, but it never got too severe that it would cause cracks. Plus, I try my best to not tailgate and travel near big semi-trucks. But, I guess CA roads are just sht.
& I always hand wash my car.

How big was the chip that got repaired? The "pits" on my windshield is no bigger than a dot made by a fine sharpie. You can run your finger along the "pit" and feel the groove that the rock had made. I called AAA and that said those that do not crack or develop legs cannot be repaired?

53k miles on my 14is350 and the windshield looks like crap. So many pits all over as well as a repaired spider web crack. Lots of interstate driving with pebbles. None of my prior cars look like this. I'm afraid of getting Progressive to replace the windshield, which they have to do once a year if it needs it, as I don't want some cheapo aftermarket glass, nor do I want to see them damage the car trying.

Same here. I have 54k on the car and the windshield looks like ****... Tried everything to make it look better, and failed. It's as if they made the windshield out of acrylic plastic. :/

I dont even drive outside of the city and mine has tons of those little pits/chips you guys were talking about... I just thought I was unlucky with rocks... but starting to think it is the design of the glass or windshield angle.

To the guys that had pits,
Did they even develop legs or worsen over time?
I've took a quick look and counted 3 visible pits, which I can see from inside the car. (The sun doesn't have to be shinning on the windshield either).

Same here. Purchased a used 2014 IS250 with 37,000 miles back in October and noticed many pits and scratches. Its like having very dirty glasses. Previous owner actually chipped it on the passenger side but the dealership said it was repaired before the car was put on sale. I thought, since this was my first sedan, that is was just because how low the car was to the ground that it was prone to pits and scratches, but after reading this thread, I think it has something to do with the windshield itself.
