I have been looking at aftermarket cameras and even replacing my rear view mirror with a built in camera display, so I thought I would peel pack my interior trunk panel and check and see if I had the mystery plug, and yes, I do! So it looks like plug and play for the camera, but how do you handle the mounting? Can you replace just the panel under the trunk lid with one that accepts the camera or does it take drilling into the existing panel?

Hijack87 - how did you handle that part of the install?

From the outside I could see like an outline on where I should cut the plastic for the camera installation, but on the inside there's a metal plate that looks like it would block the installation so I'm not sure yet if that thing would be in the way, hoping that it wouldn't. I'm going to a shop later and get them to install it. Ill take pictures and post it here

Thanks hijack87

Do you have a picture after you put the trim piece back on? I'm looking to get the camera for a 2014 IS 350 that didn't come with one and wondering if I should also buy the trim piece or just cut it like you did.

Wow. I thought there was already a cut out. That's quite some work to cut the metal and trim piece.
Looks very clean though. Good job.

Wow, Thanks for the update with pictures. This is exactly what I'm trying to do on my Canadian car. I found a camera and it works however.... how did you measure the template to cut the metal? I see you taped it and drew it on, but how did you measure it, we don't want to over cut it. Thanks for your help

Since it was a used camera it didnt have any templates so I just relied on those guys in the pics and hope they do it right. Which for me the did a pretty good job

For those who want to go the OEM route - here are the part numbers you need. It's not cheap, but I did not want to take the risk with a used or aftermarket, so my order is placed. All parts ~$660 through mylparts.com with Club Lexus discount (CL5)

86790-53031 Camera
82181-53040 Wire Harness (connects the camera to the existing plug in trunk - camera does not come with it)
76801-53090-XX. Trim with hole cutout for camera - "XX" is your paint code

That's where I found my part numbers too. However I got my camera at the wreckers and it came with the harness. For $165.00

Kudos for finding a used camera and harness that cheap- I looked around quite of bit and could only find one for $400. The donor car got hit badly in the back so was not willing to take risk.

For those interested in searching for a used camera check out www.car-part.com

It lets you search every scrapyard in North America for whatever you need. It includes pricing and part quality. There are lots of backup cameras on there.

an IS350 2014 did not come with a backup Cam ? you're in Ontario Canada too right ? i thought a Base Canadian model 2014 IS350 back up cam is standard ? i know there a few 2014 IS250 don't come with backup Camera, that's strange.

Go to dealership install from them its better.
